Right, RXS... Not gunna give up on it, After a spell of "All is lost" I've decided to give it another go!
Going to get a second hand engine for the bike first of all.
Front brake hub needs some work, The adjustable bolt that adjusts the tension of the brake cable on the hub actually bends if you try to undo it...
Nothing really works on it, It's like a cheesestring of rust!
So if anyone has any ideas for this, it will be much appreciated.
Next on the list, anyone know how to pull a dent out the side of a fuel tank, it's a wide, and fairly shallow dent, but the tank badge is coving it and it looks hard to get one of the dent pullers onto.
Anyone got any ideas for this either?

Take the badge off?

Drill it and pull it out?

Could you tap the dent out from the inside?

Buy another tank?

If you're looking at a spare engine it's also worth keeping your eyes open for a whole spares or repairs bike. Especially if you have the storage space for it.

I've had my RXS for 13 years and it was pretty wrecked at one point. Two minor offs didn't help. So I bought a complete non-runner from Ebay for 100 quid. Both bikes then sat in storage for a couple of years before I finally combined all the good bits in 2006.

The only bits of my original bike were the frame, engine and electrics. All the rest was from the newer non-runner.

Now that the engine has expired on my bike I'll be nicking the barrel off the donor bike. It's still sitting at the back of my garage under a huge pile of crap. In fact I reassembled all the crap bits off my old bike to make a complete rolling chassis. Made for easier storage.

I took a dent out of my tank with one of those suction cups, but it was well away from the badge. Mine was a typical knee dent. Most RSX100s seem to have them.

a hairdryer and then a compressed air can can pop out a dent

dent removal

removing rust is best done using electrolysis. for something like your frame you would need one of them wheely bins, some soda crystals and a car battery charger
rust removal

I've got quite a big dent on my tank, also near the badge. Never bothered trying to remove it - I think it probably weakens the structure of the tank (even more). I only ever take pics of the bike from the good side Laughing

I did once manage to remove a biggish dent from my original tank using an AR125 kickstart level. That was in a more reachable place than current dent, though.

Never had a problem with the knurled adjuster nut, that I can recall. It shouldn't take much getting out, after a spray with something like PlusGus.

Whole bikes for spares is the way to go, but sadly most people break them to flog on ebay now.

i disagree.
we left a very rusty frame in a tank for 2hours. then flipped the frame 180degrees to do the other side for two hours. perfect. not a spec of rust. i have pictures to prove

I've recently had to roll my own engine from the magic box of bits, such is the scarcity of reasonably priced RXS motors.

Despite the growing collection of odd noises coming from my engine, it still refuses to call it a day. Did 310 mile round trip to Brighton yesterday, then 115 earlier today - how the feck it keeps going is beyond me Shocked

I'm used to taking the old fossil distances. But it's getting a bit scary these days Laughing I was going to ride the Bandido to Brighton but fuel is 124.9 a litre and it does about 35 to the gallon Shocked RXS averaged about 90mpg. It's a tight bugger's dream Wink
