Hi,

Got a day off tomorrow so plan to check out my mates Nc30.

The other day the bike decided to stall as he was pulling into his drive. He thought it was he let the clutch out a bit too fast in gear so thought nothing of it.

Now the bike is completely dead - as in when the ignition is on there is no engine light/neutral light etc - the engine doesn't tick over and the bike is as if the ignition is off.

The plan is to check the battery as the first port of call but not really what else it can be (seeing as its a bit weird the battery dying when the bike started and rode fine that morning)

Any suggestions of the other obvious things to check?

Thanks in advance.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

Battery Connections. At the battery or at the Main Power Relay. Or the Earth on the frame.
Main Power Relay.

Is there any electrics? Lights, horn, brake lights indicators? If no electrics then the main power relay would be a good bet.

Alarm System/Power Commander/ A Twisty-Twisty Connection (come un-twisted)

Cause it started and run round and round means nowt to me.

If the bike is not well maintained then it could be any one (all) of the above.

Good hunting.

You will need a volt meter and a test lamp....
Servicing includes proper inspection of electrics also, which loads of lay-mechanics are not prepared to accommodate.

Nope there is no electrics at all- the bike was completely dead

It'll will be the first time we've looked at the electrics - bad idea to start now or should this be relatively straight forward?

Ill give the fuses a check too.

Thanks

I'm not familiar with the beast but if a main fuse then easy to fix.
But why did the fuse blow???

Relays can just give it up due to age/abuse/use.

Start playing with it now???

You can eliminate loads with a few simple checks.

The battery should crackle when you disconnect the leads.
But do not test it be placing a screwdriver or spanner across the posts. It will knacker the tool and may explode or burn your fingers. A volt meter will tell you everything you need to know about the battery safely.

Other things will need time. Do not rush into it try to be systematic.

Right now I think necking beer would be a better thing to concentrate efforts on.

Managed to get around to checking the bike today.

There was a fuse gone so changed it...still nothing...then decided to change another of the fuses which looked fine but the engine & neutral lights etc came on this time...

Thought great, put things back together and then check again but dash lights were now very dim...will charge the battery and see where that gets us...at least its a start!

Thanks for the help guys
