Can someone please explain to me the exact and correct procedure for removing surface, I Have a bit on the back of my exhaust and on my brake disc would you believe it, never headr of brake discs rusting. I know use sandpaper etc but what I don’t want to do is take the exhaust off and sanding it down too much and damaging the chrome.

Pictures would help.

If its light surface rust, auto-sol and a cloth and lots of work will do it.

WD 40 has worked for me in the past, but a spray and some brushes also can do it.

Or vinegar works if you can submerge something.

You cannot damage the chrome.

If it is rusted then all the chrome that was ther is now gone.
You can make a rod for your back and polish the metal (Steel) back to shiny. But this will involve a constant up keep of that state. Or...... Buy a tin of High Temperature Spray paint from Halfrauds and do the pipes with that. It works up to 400 deg C. You could wrap lagging around but looks shit.

Rust on the brake disc is normal if the bike is not used.
It can also be the metal ground off by braking and it's just bonded to the surface. Wire brush it off if it offends thee.

Rust on the brake disc is not a problem, just go for a long ride and when you get home, all the rust should be gone Thumbs Up

Sandpaper will scratch the exhaust, have you tried autosol?
