i think i read somewhere that some knee sliders feel different? Any truth to this? Or do you just pick whatever slider you think looks pretty?

Leather knee sliders are far more grabby than plastic ones.

That's the only other type I have experience of. They also smoke with prolonged use and smell of cow. Cool

Some fit better than others to standard leathers - I just go for cheap ones and try and not scrape them much, just another expense if you're doing a lot of track work.

I have a set of motrax tear drop ones, really hard, had them for about 6 years. Loads of trackdays on em and 2 crashes. But I've been told on trackdays that people can hear me coming in the corners from the really loud scraping noise they make!

When I bought my leather trousers they had Heine Gericke sliders on, and they were absolutely lovely. They were soft, and you could really feel them sliding. But they wore out quickly.

Since then I've used those ones that came free on Performance bikes about 5 years ago. People keep donating me their ones.

They're so loud when you get them down! It's like strapping a gameboy to your leg.
I just buy whatever's cheapest on B.I.N on eBay before a trackday. Although I like having quite thick ones, because my knee tends to go down at an angle, if a slider's thin and soft, I'll go through it very very quickly.

I had some motrax sparkies. They were a weird shape on my leg, didnt feel as good as my nice soft hein gericke ones and I lost two of the rods out of one slider on its premiere kd. Total thumbs down for motrax and sparkies from me.

I dont wear them anymore since I only have one left. The left one went flying off my leathers at somewhere upwards of 160 imaginary mph on a bypass, hitting both me and the bike. Wasnt happy!

I have the Wiz sliders on my leathers atm.

Got them free, very thick and feel spot on when they kiss the black stuff. Skip along the ground nicely.

Basically;

The harder the plastic compound, the less grabby the slider.

I have had Motrax teardrops, Wiz race sliders and some Wiz leathers, and they all react differently.

The Motrax ones I class as my 'trainer' sliders which I use after my winter layoff and when I learnt to KD, cos they are moderatly soft (so they wear nicely with not much use Wink ) and aren't too grabby, coupled with the fact that they are HUGE they make nice KD with little effort

The Wiz race ones are for the track and middle of summer, they wear slowly because they are really hard compound (I have done countless trackdays and they still have plenty of life) and they dont grab at all, but they make a nice noise Smile

The Wiz leather ones were the cause of my groin strain! I was totally not used to how much they grabbed and when I KD'd on a shellgripped roundabout they nearly steered the bike into the central island!! Laughing They have a nice smoke effect though!

Sparkys are cool.

KD in wet is gutsy to some, very stupid to others...

Then there's me.. Laughing

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gLdSYF8Qugo (both) Wink

EDIT - that 'might' be classed as 2up KD, but you get no cool points, the bike's not even leaning over. Confused Laughing Poosy... Razz

We tried that. When it's one of the original ones, it's actually quite bulky for a slider, as it goes!

And to the sv guy with the queer comment - they cant be for queers otherwise you'd have got some too! Now THATS being childish Laughing
