I would change it every oil change. But it depends on your bike. On yours it would be ok every 2nd change I guess, but on a high revving sportsbike it's best with every change.

Come on - it's only an extra tenner and piece of piss to change it! Thumbs Up

Depends how much you want to look after your engine I guess...

As often as specified in the service schedule, and according to the EN125 manual that's every 1875 miles or 3000km, you can download the owner's manual: here

Every 6000 miles on the bandit.

Every 3000 miles on the XT.

I always change the filter whenever I change the oil. Thumbs Up

Hi

Filters cost very little compared to the oil in a larger bike or a car so I don't really see the point in saving money there.

However if your oil changes are every 1800 miles and the amount of oil is small then I probably would only change the filter every other change.

All the best

Keith

Hi

The filter holds a fair amount of oil, so changing the filter later means you are not changing all of the oil (or diluting your fresh oil with dirty oil would be another way to put it).

All the best

Just got a magnetic sump plug. Keep needing to clean the screen while I change the head gasket every few hundred miles.

Hopefully final cyl head rebuild next weekend.

Imagine a metal mesh, shaped either square/round/conical.
Some fit behind a large sump plug. Others like the square one on my bike are sleeved into the lower part of the crankcase. So when Robby said they are a PITA, he's right as we have to take our crankcase off and pull it out with pliers, hoping not to knacker the gasket when we put it back together....every 1000miles or engine grinds itself to bye bye quickly.

Oil screen filter...Not FTW really.

Fair enough, I've not seen one in the flesh myself so best check with Suzuki, but for £4 it might be worth taking a flyer and comparing the old filter with the new when you get it out. If it's the wrong size put the old one back in, as it's an internal filter you're not going to knacker it getting it off like you would an external cannister style filter.

You don't need to clean the screen every change, particularly with a magnetic sump plug. There should be very little material on it, just 4 or 5 small flakes of metal. Make sure you wipe out the crap in its cavity as well.

That said, I will continue to change the screen every change. I like the bike, new cylinder heads aren't available, and they aren't particularly well lubed. If I feel particularly silly one of these days I may get one of my heads breathed upon and try to get roller bearings on the camshaft.

Have you found a supplier for pattern original exhausts yet?

Okay I've done another search on-line and found Brooks Barn stock the EN filter for £3.50 but are out of stock at the moment, but you can e-mail them and they'll order it in.

And it looks like it's the same as the GZ125 not the GS my mistake, but looks like the EN is a grey chinese import, which is why it's harder to find the parts on-line.

Oil filters cost about a fiver and it takes minutes to do. It's silly not to IMO.

Kinda OT.
I ignore the recommended 7000miles interval for screen cleaning. Think i'm over precautious..stems from finding bits of rag in my CG and since then i'm a bugger for screen cleaning. Smile Managed 6 case on case off without duffing the gasket. Also its been drummed into me to change the oil well before the 1800mile interval.
Seems to be working as the old bugger is showing no signs of engine wear.....yet.

No luck with the exhausts. CMSNL did have a right side, but it was super daft money. Pretty sure a wetdream system could be altered to fit...or maybe a pair made to order should i get wedged.
Failing all that its buy the complete bike..have seen some crackers on liebay. One went for £750 Laughing Surprised

I change the filter every other oil change on all my bikes. If I buy a bike, I change the oil and filter right away.

I'm so bad i'd change the oil if my mate rode it...I use the trip meter for oil change reminders...I need a life...quick.

Hmmm...

The YBR has a mesh screen jobbie and no other filter except a 'centrifugal filter' which is part of the pump you don't really touch unless you're getting pump problems. Must do the screen next service as I've never touched it myself. It's been at least 12'000 miles and I have no idea if the garage ever cleaned it when they were servicing the bike, in which case it's now 26'000 miles without a clean. Shocked

So you're basically saying I could reuse the gasket for the engine cover if I'm careful?
