Although I keep my Bike very clean the rear Sprocket always looks grubby and is difficult to get clean does anyone have any tips to get it sparkling again.

Take it off and stick it in a bucket of petrol.

Brake cleaner and a wire brush might also work.

Toothbrush, parraffin and rag... job done. Petrol is a very good degreasant but try not to get it on your chain since it WILL knacker the seals.

I'd use wet wipes for removing oil and brake dust, then spray WD40 on a rag and wipe over the area to protect it. Cool

Whip the sprocket off.
Attach the + side of 9v battery to the sprocket (Cathode).

Attach the - side to your burd's/wife's/mum's gold wedding ring (Anode).

Put both item in a bucket of vinegar.

Let it sit overnight.

Eh Vwah La....

A lovely, tarnish resistant Electro plated Sprocket.

The Sprockets are normally Zinc plated (Anodised if Aluminuiminuminum) so if you fret away with Brasso to much, you will succeed in removing that thin protective patina dropping you deeper in your fastidious mire.

Chain cleaner/brake cleaner and then some engine lacquer may preserve the bright finish.

A brush over with paraffin to remove the worst of the crud then some hot soapy water will get it as clean as it ever needs to be.

Some very small potholers armed with tiny brushes inserted up the tailpipe might do the trick.

I might make a modest proposal that the tracksuited small children of the unemployed underclass might be employed for the task, rather in the manner of Victorian chimney sweeps. This might not be looked on too well by the do gooders in the Social Services however.

Anything to keep your weekend toy sparkling inside and out Very Happy

Well you think you've got it bad? My tyres are dirty, the inside of my petrol tank reeks of petrol, the chain is covered in white goo, the inside of the engine is all black and oily, under my seat is a load of silly wires, and my air filter is full of DUST! Shocked Shocked Shocked

No excuse for any of that, I empty and clean out my tank after every ride. I also clean the outside AND the inside of my tyres on a daily basis.

Cheapskate! I REPLACE my entire bike after each ride. In fact, I don't even RIDE it, I keep it in a hermetically sealed bag in my basement. There is a conveyor that replaces it with a new bike each day.
