ive posted previously with questions about my cb100n project, im now moving on to designing an exhaust, i dont know where to start, ive been trying to make sence of all the guff about styles tuned length, pipe diameters, baffles and packing and im a little confused

has anyone got any ideas, of where to start?

ive also found a picture of an exhaust for a cbr125 and wondered why the diameter of the pipe gets bigger half way along is that ment to work in the way old magas worked on gp bikes but done before the end can so they can give it a modern look i know its not much of a taper but its still making a difference otherwise they wouldnt have gone to the trouble of fabricating it like that ?

ide be greatful for any input or ideas you may have

very helpful there, well done for a thougt full reply, its good to see that someones got some deep and meaning full insight on the subject your obviously an expert, by your reply you must have worked at arrow or micron???

im not expecting the bike to do a million miles an hour it is what it is, a cheep run around, im just making it how i want it to be theres no need to get bent out of shape over it.

lots of people on here have small bikes and want to get the best out of them they can, there not hurting anyone and dont have delusions of grandeur they just want advise, thats it, all they get is "dont waste your time or money get a bigger bike" its not what we asked we asked a question about a subject. have the manners to either reply sensibly, or just dont bother posting at all

the reason i need to make a new pipe is because ive made a set of ally rear sets and they sit where the hanger goes for the exhaust, so i need to redirect it anyway, so i might as well get the tune of it as near as i can get it

also someone might post something on here thats relevent to other people i.e if you had a 400/4 or similar you might want to make a set of pipes and there might me some similaritys in the calculations

WHY BE SO NEGATIVE ABOUT PEOPLES PROJECTS ITS ALL GOOD FUN AT THE END OF THE DAY ITS ALSO A CHALLENGE TO SEE WHAT CAN BE DONE WITH PATIANCE AND THOUGHT FULL DESIGN PEOPLE THAT POST THINGS LIKE THAT ARE SO IGNORENT AND UP THERE OWN ARSE

i know cash is the main problem and i know theres only so much you can do with a dremal lol,

im making most of the bits at work, im a fabricator for a laser cutting company so far ive made for free

an ally seat unit with a hump for a battery pack

a small ally tank about 6 liters

ally rearsets

ally rear brake torsion bar

made an ally splash guard for between the rear tubes of the frame

ally chain guard

im working on an ally head light/ clock bracket assembly
thats similar to the original

ally bracket for rear light indicators number plate to fix to

cut off the handle bar mounts the top yoke filled the holes and polished it cut the old bars up and used some chromeally tube to make some clip ons

cut off the rear peg mounts

and ditched the centre stand

im also going to

make ally wheel spacers to replace the steel ones

maybe make but probably buy an ally mudguard for the front and make brackets to suit out of ally or maybe durial ally

ive also been round removing casting marks and polishing stuff to reduce weight

basically trying to shave weight off the little thing as i can

i think ive spent 150 quid if that on bits and bobs and the bike cost me 70 so, so far its not bad and that includes another engine and carb

compared to buying a runner i think thats cheapish

ill probably just end up cutting the down section of the pipe at the fron and putting a couple of inches into it to get some extra depth and then cutting the silencer off and rewelding it so it sticks up a little to give me some ground clearence as its seems to be a massive problem to make a pipe from scratch, i wouldnt want to upset everyone
