Now I've sold the Gas Gas im on the look out for anouther sports bike.


I've always liked the look of the GSX-R and there seems to a few in the £1500 price range at around 96-98 age.

After getting a few quotes it seems the 750 is cheaper to insure than the 600. Is the 750 the one to plumb for? is it a better bike than the 600?


What about other bikes of the same age-
yzf-6 & &750

zx6 & 7


I've even seen a few tt600's in my price range, is there any other bike I should be looking at?

i personally prefer the earlier oil cooled suzukis, but thats just me,
all bikes mentioned are pretty good in a generic way.


if those are your choices, then i would probably go for the zx7
they have a bit of a cult following, and a little more personality.

if it were me and i had 1500quid??
i would be looking at the rsv1000 quite a few going cheap on ebay at the moment,
around the same power as the 750cc class, just a bit more torque lower down the rev range

I've got to keep my insurance below £200, so a litre bike is out of the qustion

You not thought of going newer than 99 and looking at something like an SV650s or Hornets.

err... an SV or Hornet has nothing on a SRAD in terms of performance, handling, or build. In fact, they have nothing on an old slingshot gsxr either

Why don't anyone do temp insurance for bikes of your under 25?


I want to test ride this bike but I'll have no insurance, would you risk it?

Personally, I'd not go older than SRAD or 98 kwak, 99 r6.
The zx7 has it's charms, but a G/J model ZX6 will likely be better in most performance aspects, despite having less power on paper.

The 600 SRAD was always known to be a bit revvy.
Note that I know of a tatty Y1 GSXR (first 'new shape' after SRAD) that I expect will be in your price range with fresh MOT - give me a shout if you're interested and I'll get you more details.

What do you go for..... a 2000 plate tatty GSXR or a clean 97 plate GSXR, both are the same price
