First post so be gentle.

Hi all. I've been riding about 2-3 years but have just spent the last 1-2 years without a bike. I started on an Aprilia RS125, then had a GSXR 600 for about a year or two. I want to get back into biking on the cheap. Unfortunately I had to sell off all my old gear as well. I want to try to find a sportsbike for as cheap as possible that's still worth riding and not getting to that age where it's too old and unreliable. Has to be minimum 600cc but not too bothered about it being a 1ltr, if anything not a 1ltr.

I've considered looking at the older Honda fireblades like the 900rr around 98/99 which don't seem to fetch too high a premium. I've no experience with Hondas but I have always heard about the engines being solid even high milers.

Personally I'd never buy an Aprilia again due to hassle with getting parts. Only thing I didn't get on with the Gixxer was the suspension despite getting it adjusted. I'm 6ft2 and lanky/skinny if this makes a difference, and weigh about 11-12 stone. I was after something that is if possible not difficult to ride or uncomfortable for lanksters. Also needs to look good, coz I'm a tart Smile

Thoughts?

Cheers all

C90's are surprisingly expensive for what they are. I'd suggest a 100cc two stroke actually.

Bandit or Fazer would be my choice. Neither sporty really, but decent bikes, tough, fun to ride, can be had pretty cheaply if you look around and tend not to be caned to buggery by headbangers.

An idea of what you think is cheap would be a good starting point.

A late 80's classic sportsbike is where id start looking for some cheap fun TBH!

Part of me would love a CB1100R or a VF1000R, ZX10, or early GSXR11 etc. Something old but big and grunty FTW!

2 grand will get you just about any late 90s Japanese sports 600-1000cc in good condition.

They're all competent, just pick the one you like the look of Laughing

On the cheap... Thinking this is what I did as a youngster. Bought an old leather jacket from a charity shop, wore any old boots (with laces too...such a rebel!!!!) and bought decent gloves and got a cheap lid. Then I begged and borrowed mate's spare bikes, rode anything that was going. Puch Maxi, DT50, Honda 250 Superdream, C90, TS50...whatever I could scrounge. Thumbs Up
