I dont wanna tarnish all fast riders with the same brush but why do the vast majority of sports bikes riders drive like f$%^&ing pricks? I am fed up of seeing countless near suicidal overtaking manouvres by twats on 2 wheels to put it strait. I want to disagree when safety statistics say bikers make up a small percentage of traffic yet produce a large percentage of fatalities. Police are spoiliing the roads with speed cameras which is only being contributed to by wreckless overtakes by people on gsxr type bikes. If you wanna speed then fair enough. Speed itself isnt an issue but its the way you use it. Overtainging on bends is asking for trouble and will only help the police justify more bastard speed cameres.

I have a VTR1000, i'm 20 years old nearly 21, i only overtake when i can see infront clearly, no junctions and no danger.
But i know what you mean and i used to be one of them, natural selection is a good thing.

Well, I overtake on bends all time. There's nothing dangerous at
about it if you can see your path through is clear. I especially like
doing it at speed in the pouring rain, as I know it'll give the non-
bikers in cars something to talk about to break their boredom. Razz

Or are you referring to bikers who overtake on blind bends? Well
yes, it can be dangerous. It certainly gets my pulse racing when I
occasionally try my luck. Bounce!

Well your normal. I am 23 and can condone speeding in some circumstances. For example its possible to safely overtake a 50 mph car on the a470, but not safe to do so if you try it at 59mph. It would take too long long to complete manouvere. On the ther hand I despize it when I see an R1 going hell for leahter overtaking a cage driver on a blind bend. It provokes speed cams aswell as obvious risks.

The speed doesn't bother me.
Not one bit.
Let them kill themselves.

It's the loud pipes I would like to see Off the market.

Race tracks don't allow them so why should we still have to listen to the stupid noise they make on public roads.

And those fat moustachio'd twats on their HD style Fat-Tails (or what eva) need bull fukin' too.
I do not want to hear that you have to struggle to negogiate an antiquated pre American-Civil-War gearbox without the benefits of synchromesh.
If you need to blip the throttle before every single down change then put a muffler on the lumpy big fuker.
Straight through exhausts/race cans are the belongings of ignorant anti-bike lobby encouraging nitwits.

keeps everything smooth and stops any lockups under heavy braking and downshifting.. no slipper clutch to help me out there.

Ultimately, sports bikes are designed to be ridden at very high speeds and are generally bought to be used for fun. Fun for most people (27cows excepted) equals fast. That said you should try to not terrify other road users whilst you are doing it.

And you can't disagree with the stats, biking is clearly more dangerous than just about any other form of transport and I doubt that would change EVEN if you discounted all the accidents caused by "crazy" riding.

Because it is fun.

Here's another question.

Why should any other biker care less whether or not you think they are riding like "f$%^&ing pricks"?

Answer:

"They shouldn't".

So that everyone will know that a) they are cool, b) they have a large penis, c) they are not inadequate in any way and d) they are Power Rangers and thus blessed with super human skills, such as the ability to see round blind bends.

And here is the nub of the problem - if you maneuver for a position that offers a good view, you CAN see around the bend often, however the miserable NIMBY style people won't think of this at all and will moan on about 'dangerous', while not paying any attention to the road.

There's riding fast but safely...and then there's reckless stupidity. There haven't been as many gobshites about this year thus far, thankfully. The biggest problem is the weekend/recreational types on extremely fast bikes who just don't have the skill and experience to pull off overtaking on bends/at considerable speed/through traffic without putting everyone around them at risk of sudden death.

You beat me to it. It seems that it is the shiny weekend warriors that normally are to blame for the crazy rash moves and blind overtaking.

These guys drive (not ride) all week long so don't really have the skills to do any of it safely. Sunday comes and they put on their gay suit, dust their visor off and hop onto their 1000cc monsters for a bit of russian roulette. Good luck to them, as TUG said, it's natural selection at its finest.

I think that is a sweeping generalisation. I'd say you're more looking for the type of person who believes themselves to be a riding god, or at least tries to give that impression to his mates. When his mates ride fast he tries to keep up when it is beyond his ability. This is a problem.

Generalising weekend riders is incorrect. I only ride at the weekend and I always look to improve my riding. I'm not as fast as some on the road but I realise that and only try to push my observation and skills, not speed. Speed comes with good obs, good positioning and good riding technique.

If you try to go faster just by going faster you're going to come a cropper. If you try to improve your skills consistently then you'll get faster and safer.

I'd say that certain personality types who ride in groups are the most 'at risk' group of motorcyclists IMO. Not just "All weekend riders".

If you don't ride all the time, you'll never be as good as someone who does. It's like playing snooker - if you don't practice constantly, your skills quickly become dulled.

Of course, there are plenty who ride at weekends who are safe and lots who ride daily who are complete tits Laughing

The problem these days is that modern sports bikes are so easy to ride. There is very little skill needed to hustle along as 150+, unlike a few years ago when bikes like the FZR1000 would punish fools in short order. I am mystified why bikes that handle like they're on rails, with brick wall brakes and extremely predictable power delivery are so popular.

With more bikes like the S1000r about , people are requiring less and less skill to go fast Neutral This can only be a bad thing (unless you have have progressed through bikes and know how to ride a bike that doesn't correct all your mistakes)

And Sorry MarJay, didn't mean to tar you with the same brush but you can see where I am coming from.

Cheers,

Because pushing a bike with higher limits, close to those limits, is a lot more exciting than pushing something that can't keep up with cars round corners. You just need to remember that to us youngsters speed is often considered quite fun Cool Even you enjoy speed despite your continual hypocritical posts about the pointlessness of anything that can do more than 70 mph Laughing

For me the real problem is people worrying to much about what other people are doing and that is all the way from your everyday person on the street right up to the nannying councils and government we have. This obsession with safety and prolonging life is what fuels the speed cameras and in a lot of places ridiculously low speed limits. If you remove the cotton wool packaging then life is a lot more enjoyable.

If someone wants to ride recklessly and bury themselves in a hedge then that is there choice and not a matter for anyone else, unless its them they hit, and then only after they hit them. To be fair if they are on a bike they are pretty unlikely to cause that much damage to the well protected occupants of the cars that make up the majority of other road users.

I'm all in favour of fast bikes ridden safely and skillfully Cool I just can't see the point in something that will comfortably sit at warp factor speeds. Where's the fun? It's entirely unnatural not to feel the wind blast, hear the scream of tortured components and need to hang on for grim death when you're going fast Laughing

You don't like modern bikes as they can go round corners too well and stop too quickly? What you are saying then is that you don't like people riding dangerously on the roads but you much prefer riding bikes that have poor brakes and handling as it's more exhilirating. It's almost like your posts are there just to make a point and are actually massively hypocritical most of the time...

I don't understand why it worries people so much, tbh. I often get caught up by the faster bikers, and happily move over to give them as much road as possible, because you know nothing is going to slow them down. And usually they over take and are gone, and are nowhere in sight by the time you get around the corner.

If you think about it, everything is being taken away from people. Years ago kids were out and about, climbing trees, riding their pushbikes in quarries, doing dare-devil stunts leaping off buildings and hedge jumping, swimming in lakes/canals, out and about on pushbikes with their mates from morning to night, exploring and having mini adventures.

These days it's so different, see the way the UK is going, safety mad, speed cameras everywhere, helmets for babies, danger danger everywhere...the element of risk is being squashed, stamped away. You need risk in life, the element of danger, it makes you feel alive.

Hooning about on m'bikes, experimenting with drugs, base-jumping, all these types of things are all about risk/getting a high/feeling the adrenaline!!
