How useful are carb balancers?

My bike is in need of a good old carb balance after my various rummaging about with the carbs. However for a decent set its gonna set me back about £50.

Is it actually worth it? Ill have the bike for the next year or so but also know they are used with fuel injected bikes to balance the throttle valves.

Are they a worthwhile investment? Because it doesn't seem worth it for something im only going to be using once or twice in the next few years.

I think you've hit the nail on the head.

If your going to do it yourself, every time it needs doing, then pair a pair.

If not, then they are not worth th expense. If you buy a balancer that has 2 gauges, it'll be cheaper than one that has 4

You balance 1+2 and 3+4 and then balance 2+3 iirc?

Well I will be doing it myself. What im really asking is how often does it need doing? My bike is a bit jumpy at low speeds but I can live with it for £50.
If im gonna be using them 5 times say, then for £10 I will pay for it, if you see what I mean!

And for the sake of a tenner I may aswell buy the extra 2 columns.

I like having shiny tools, so generally I buy the tool and do the job myself. However, I consider carb balancing and changing plugs (on this bike atleast) to be a ball-ache, so I'd rather pay someone else to do it.

yep having balancers are worth it,
you'll have them the rest of your life, and they are also useful for fi engines as well
i prefer the mercury type, but they are illegal to sell (i believe) these days, but the morgan ones are good, i don't really trust the dial type, but like all things, some people swear by them
