That was quite good and raised a few good points.

I wonder if anybody on BCF owns an IPAD.

No not yet, I think they come out at the end of this month here.

[edit] nope, at the end of next month - pre-order in a few weeks time.

Three of my friends have recently joined the Cult of iPhone.

I feel like Donald Sutherland in Invasion Of The Body Snatchers. They say over and over, 'it's really good though' while sporting a wide-eyed brainwashed stare. I see people strolling mindlessly into traffic with the telltale white earphone wires sprouting from the sides of their head, heedlessly walking to their deaths under busses and cars.

I hear people say with a worrying fervency; 'it's Jemima, yuh, on the iPhone...' or 'Hold on Jake, I need to take this call on my iPhone...' I see posts on facebook etc made 'via facebook from my iPhone' and I see people furiously claiming theres an app for everything. Theres even an app telling iPhone users what to do when a non-iPhone user claims there isn't an app for something! (It just makes another app for that on the spot!!)

Soon, we won't need to make any decisions, the technostate (or whatever Alex ones called it) will do it for us via our iphones. On the site here there is a link out to an election picker. Who's to say what drives that, soon we'll be so used to consulting our technology for answers we'll begin not to question the advice these evil devices give or from where it comes.

Mark my words, the iphone/pad/thing is merely the subtle vanguard of the techno-onslaught. Soon you'll fall asleep at night with your iThing charging near by and it'll absorb your essence and in the morning, you'll be something other than yourself.

You'll be an iPerson!

Fucking hell, sometimes I scare myself! Shocked

Wink

Impressive getting across his point. I'm actually one of those people who don't get why there are some who are so crazy over iPhone, or over any other Apple products as well.

Maybe I'm immune to hype, but what the fuck is an iPad? Some kind of technological sanitary towel?

Like a big iPhone that you can't make calls on.

A tablet PC given a shiney make over and sold to the drones.

Iphones and Ipods are just fashion accessories, some people may genuinely have them because they fit the bill and perform the functions they specifically need but mostly it's just so they can be one of the trendy ones, it used to be clothes now it's gadgets.

About 6 months ago i felt the same way about iphones, fashion accessories, marketed just for fun. I was due an upgrade 3 months ago and they offered me an iphone as upgrade, the only reason i went for it was because the sony ericson x10 wasnt ready to be released and blackberrys in general are quite poor and i know because i use a blackberry at work. Untill you have one you will not know how much easier your life will be. I used to have a nokia N96 the worst phone ever, and that was terrible, the iphone is just so user friendly and so quick aswell, i go to quite a lot of restaurants all i go is open a map and type harvester, pizza hut, and hell even Lidl and it finds it within seconds. I am not getting an ipad however im going to america tomorrow and if i get the chance i will have a play. I dont have a mac or anything and dont like the user interface. i just dont know why people really hate the iphone, its a great phone, if you want a phone for making calls and texting just buy a 10quid pay as you go phone it will do the job. i think ipad will be quite good and am pretty sure it will be a big success i wouldnt pay $499 fo it though.

I don't think people hate the Iphone it's more a hatred of the people who own them. They just go on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on. I think you get the idea. You talk to them and it's Iphone this and Iphone that. It's fine I don't mind when they first get it because they want to show it off. But after having it a while they figure a way to get it into every conversation.

The iPhone is not even the best phone out there anymore but the hype was so big that people just go on and on about them.

I got a HTC Desire delivered on Monday and it dicks all over my missus's iPhone 3GS and she even agreed with that herself. The Android software kicks into the corner on every point possible.

No, I hate them. The people who 'swear by them' I just feel a bit sorry for.

Not now or next year, but you know how people are. I remember not being able to phone folk while outside or on the move. I remember discovering the magic of text messaging. Loads of us can relate not being able to do the above to how things are now, it would be a bother if we couldn't.

The iPhone does something much worse, it removes the need to make decisions, it takes away the requirement to think. It removes instinct and the spontaneity of the human condition. Want something to eat? Ok, but it'll be on some one other than your terms if you trust your iphone to tell you where to go.

Fuck me, I think I'm becoming obsessed. Is there an app to stop this?

But you assume that everyone who has an iphone will follow it religiously. I have one because I was due an upgrade and it was free. Its pretty useful but I wont use it to run my whole life - im still old skool and carry a diary for that. You really do have a thing against them though!

As for an ipad.... I fail to see the point of them. It wont fit in your pocket so you need to carry it in a bag. Already got stuff in your bag (keys, wallet/purse, knuckleduster....) that could scratch the screen? You need an ipad case!

I agree with the horse!

"iCulture" I see has two main flaws in my books.

Sensible flaw A: They remove the need to think and encourage obedience to the machine. Tell me this tell me that, show me where to go etc etc. The mindless scum of the country get even more mindless as they turn to a computer for basic tasks......

Paranoid conspiracy flaw B: The way iCulture integrates and syncs as many systems it can means that very quickly a large part of your life now has an electronic footprint behind it. This footprint can be monitored and tracked and soon what pubs you hang out at, what things you buy can all be kept track of. Facebook makes me LOL as it is so obviously a goldmine to the people **insert conspiracy here** who want to know such things.

Hey why spend time money and effort to profile people when they will do that for you. Where they go, photos from multiple angles etc etc...

Facebook will even make up a handy little guide about you to give to the pigs.

Also other security breaches like having bank data on ones iPhone and such. Not to mention with everything integrated if your primary system fails you lose most/all of your capabilities.

Go to an Apple Shop and meet the clones who sell them. The place in Brum reminds me of Brave New World and those that inhabit it.

The iPad will change everything no matter if you like it or not.

It will be an and expensive gadget in the retail market but for hospitals, schools etc.. It will make a huge impact.

Was there not a tablet PC thing which was much of muchness?

Why do Apple have to be the ones to develop these things successfully? It doesn't help that much of their customer base are insufferably smug.

Evil or Very Mad

I think that used to be the case but more and more 'normal' users are moving over to Apple thanks to the domination of their products.

I've been selling Apple Kit to Schools and business for the last few years, over that time I have come to have a love hate relationship with them.

I like their products because they do a job, very well. I hate the Apple ethos of "It's the best way to..." and all the other shit that goes with it, their heads are so far up their own arses they haven't seen daylight for years and IMO that will be their downfall.

I suppose it basically is a real life version of the sci-fi "data slate" thats been thrown about for the last however long.

To be honest I'm pretty sure I hate Apple on principle rather than anything else. I've got to admit that for the vast majority of users a mac based product will be superior to a pc. This is assuming the majority of users want a machine that will look on ebay, check out facebook/youtube and maybe type up a few words every now and then.

Simple interface, low risk of viruses etc etc make a mac a good choice for that sort of thing.

That said I hate the way computing has seemed to dumb itself down to cater for a wider audience. Just look at MS Office, it went from a perfectly usable interface with text to some gay as fuck pictorial version that pisses me off no end. Now I'm with open-office thanks.... I have no problem with taking a little time to actually learn how to use a piece of software well, by trying to make things idiot-proof stuff is getting worse!
