Chap on a ducati 848, said he couldn get a new tyre for 4 weeks so he has carried on riding with it like this! Said he did 70 miles and it felt fine.

Yup, but I would keep the speed down and look for puddles to pass through to prevent the tyre from overheating.

Heh I've seen people turn up to northern BCF meets with tyres more worn than that!

Did a few months ago but mine had a nail about an inch to the right of the canvas. Rode about 70kms on it but didn't go over 120km/h

I was really shocked at how much more canvas was showing after the journey.
In retrospect it was a stupid move and I should have arranged to get it into a local shop to where I was. Blowing a Tyre on the freeway could have ended very very badly.
Sometimes you just want to take these things on to see if you can make it.
Given the choice I probably wouldn't but I had to get the bike home after I noticed the canvas showing and the flat tyre from the nail.
Topped it up with air twice on the journey home but kept the pressure well down.
Also rode a fair way hanging off the side of the bike to try and ride off center. Must have looked like a right tard.

I promise I will now keep a closer eye on my rubber bits when they're getting iffy

Considering a tyre requires rubber to maintain grip on the road I can only hope all the previous posts are said in jest.

Not only is that a problem with the police it's downright dangerous. The tyre will not work at all in wet conditions, it will also remove the suspension that is provided by the tyre. The excuse for the original in not being able to find a tyre is bullshit as well. How difficult is it find someone with a tyre in stock nowadays, owning an 848 would imply he isnt short of money either.

Absoloutely ridiculous. May as well ride around with engine mounts and axles loose & hope they dont fall out, it's probably safer.

I have ridden with tyres that had cracks off round the sidewalls from many many years ago.

Also forgot to put the rear axle nut back on before a 12 mile ride. Got back and realised that there was nothing holding the axle in place.

Ridden on flat tyres
Ridden with back drum brake wrapped around itself wedging itself on so I needed to keep revs on or it would lock up.

I cant say I've ever had a tyre wear out in the middle before the edges anyway.
Apart from when I used to ride a moped, And my first set of tyres on my NC29.

Since then, All my tyres wear out on the edges before the middle goes.


And No, I wouldnt ride that. I change my tyres as soon as the tread is getting think. Dont let it wear right out.

I normally change the tyres as soon as they start to square off. They usually have about 3mm of tread left but the profile is all wrong.

I had canvas showing on my rear a while back. Oddly it wasn't the whole way round, so it wasn't visible most of the times i parked up. When i did spot it i ordered another but had to carry on riding with it as it was my only form of transport. I'd ride on that tire if i had to, but i would expect wheel spin if i was heavy handed with the clutch.

I wouldn't want to risk it, I tend to ride through lanes and towns on poorly maintained roads. Knowing my luck I would ride through the slidey patch of mud/horse shit or find the nail and pointy rocks...
