Hi I have decided to take my mod 2 without an instructor this time round this is my 3rd attempt
Im hoping ill be ok just really would like clarification on some stuff.
At traffic lights is it compulsory to go into neutral or can I continue to do as I have been doing as hold in 1st / Back break ?
Could anyone advise on an hill start I keep stalling is this just a simple question of clutch control / Back break? ( Failed on this last time Sad

Has anyone here recently passed in pinner if so any positive tips? Im planning on heading over for a couple of hours next week pre test.
Thanks for taking the time to read this and just hope im doing the right thing by not getting another instructor.
Confused

Sitting in first, clutch in, back brake on is fine, so long as he can see that you're not moving and you've got the brake on.

For a hill start - find a hill (of any slope), sit with your back brake on in neutral, then release the pressure on your brake until you get to the point where you start moving backwards. I find on my current bike I push the lever down with my foot, whereas sitting the boot on top of it is enough to hold. Once you've done this you can be sure exactly how much pressure you're putting on it. Unneccesarily hard braking will only hinder your progress.

When you're doing the hill start, put this much (plus a bit more for safety) pressure on the brake. Get your revs up as high as you feel comfortable with, then ease the clutch out. Choose a point on the rev counter (3k, 4k, 5k?) that you don't want the revs to fall below. As you ease the clutch out the revs will fall, so gently adjust the throttle to keep them steady at that number.

Continue to release the clutch until the moment you start to move forward, then carefully release both the brake and the clutch and you should be away.

Practice this at home before you go. Once you've done it successfully two or three times in a row then you'll be able to smooth the process so that eventually you're releasing the brake and clutch together.

And don't worry about how it sounds - remember you're sat on top of the engine, the instructor is ten metres behind you.
