How about the screen whereby it tells you that your post has been sucessfully added is removed completely saving an entire page having to be generated and an extra process on the server?
I mean I always click past it anyway and I doubt many people linger and watch it. ____________________ Spain 2008France 2007Big one 2009 We all die. Hi
I suspect that page is an attempt to prevent double posts. Goes there then redirects to the thread page so that if someone reloads the page of the thread it doesn't resubmit the form for their post.
Korn added some caching to the index pages so they didn't need to be regenerated all the time. Suspect that is why the index doesn't always change immediately when you submit a post.
All the best

Also, that's just the way phpbb works ____________________ will never give up his CG. I look at my fuel gauge more as a progress bar than a fuel gauge.

Hi
Not sure if Korn has changed it, but a normal phpbb install goes to a fair amount of effort to use generic sql passed to a routine to access the database. The need to keep things generic will stop the use of any clever sql.
While it might take 25 queries to show the success screen, that will include all the queries used in saving the post.
Edit - to frighten yourself have a look at your profile (ie, the one get by clicking your name, not the link at the top of the page). Quick glance and that took 418 queries
All the best

No wonder looking at your profile always takes ages... ____________________ Spain 2008France 2007Big one 2009 We all die. The goal isn't to live forever, the goal is to create something that will. In the end, your life will flash before your eyes. Make sure it is worth watching. |

Like Keith's already said those intermediate pages don't generate much in the way of load... most of the basic common queries (loading the config data out of the DB, etc) are mostly served from memcached these days, instead of actually hitting the MySQL DB.
One side-effect of the server move in Feb is that BCF is growing again, up by some 25% in terms of page views since the start of the year... which is cool, but is ultimately going to lead to even more kit being needed soon. ____________________ 3516 Miles, 11 Countries |

I honestly don't know why I re-visit these forum feedback posts after I've written something...I don't understand a thing you lot are saying...you may as well be talking gobbledegook. I wonder if this is what dyslexic people feel like when looking at plain old English text. ____________________ Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter, and those who matter won't mind - Dr. Seuss |
