Hi

Had a driver pull out on me at last minute, and to swerve to avoid a side impact at 30mph, i swerved but by time i avoided the car and got arroud the other side, i was at full tilt and on other side of road and the Cg slid and hit the curb and flipped over on to the path.

I am OK was in full Armour but bike lost its mirrors and slight bent in bars, a hard bike to kill i would say as it fine.

But the driver Drove off i was to busy layed on the ground to find a pen and paper to write the car reg down.

So would .... as i have already done.... clamped a camera to my bike, its a cheap camera, should an accident happen again its no lose, and will have recoded the crash and person that caused it.

If handed to the police at the side of the road when you report the accident and the driver has drove off is the video evidence for conviction ?

I did call the police at the time, reported the accident, and police checked my bike over, Mot / tax / check i was insured / checked the CBT was valid said nothing more we can do sorry on your way.

Anyone els been in my place ? and would the the video thing work .

since that driver pulled out i slow down now no matter what ever time there is a car at a side road, and all ways assume the driver is going to pull out.

What about the camera thing ?

Video wouldn't have worked, as no number plates on the sides are there?

There have been many discussions on BCF and a few times people have said maybe you shouldn't have swerved and gone into him. But of course you may have been severely injured if you went into the side of him.

But live and learn next time you see this keep your headlight on and twitch the bars slightly this will cause your headlamp to have a movement that catches a car drivers eye.

I realise this scenario is a possibility for any rider, but I'd suggest that being even more defensive with your riding, together with a healthy dose of paranoia would be of more benefit than the inconvenience of using a camera 24/7 ?

Best way to be. I always assume every car is going to do the worst possible thing it can and haven't ever had a crash due to another driver. Plenty of close calls however, but because I've half expected it I have been ready and able to avoid safely.

Thats true, no side plates regs.

You have a point, would come in handy it the camera is slightly pointing left to the road the car will come out of.

Would be good to leave on as when doing ride outs. or just general filming.

What other kind of accident would a camera be good in at gathering evidence ?

Any ideas ?

I've said it before, and I'll say it again -

TREAT EVERYONE ELSE ON THE ROAD AS IF THEY ARE CUNTS

Works for me.

Don't expect cars to see you. Works for me. Only crashes I have had have been on ice or mud.

Got properly pulled out on by a royal mail van but went right round it into oncoming traffic but I was preparing for it way before because the driver was looking the other way and I just knew he was going to shoot out of the side road.

I HATE TAXI DRIVERS AAAARRRHHH amount of times i swerve for them.

If i pulled them over every time ( i serve or hard brake because of there driving) And ask for a pound for my trouble i would be rich in a week.

The Black/white Taxis mainly.

When a dumbass delivery van/insert other moron here reverses into your bike and then tries to claim you back-ended them.

What I generally do is;
swerve slightly to right heroicly, do an epic stoppie and falcon punch the offenders bonnet downwards so it is embedded into the ground, then I ride on as if nothing happened. I flap my ballsack rearwards to cover my number plate so no one calls the cops on me.

True story.

Yes of course you should, slow down and slam your bike into a car, wise move.

And what should you have seen that you didn't?

Lol, Royal Mail did that to me just today, it was a one way road with two lanes the van being on the left hand lane and me being on the right about 5 meters apart and going at a steady 30mph when all of a sudden I see a right hand signal and the lady just starts to turn even though she has seen me in the side mirror and can hear my horn going off. I caught her reflection in the mirror and she looked at me like I was in the wrong and that the signal had given her the right of way. If I wasnt late for uni I shouldve gotten the reg and complained to her bosses. Ruined my flipping ride to uni.

At least the brakes on the hornet worked for that time, and im getting kinda used to locking up the rear nowadays.

I don't get as many blind cagers pulling out at me since I developed my pat. pending Mad Eyed Stare Laughing But it's still a problem, particularly when aboard something small. Always wear steel toed boots (not the power ranger nonsense, which serve no useful purpose), so you can destroy wing mirrors and put big dents in the panels of cocksuckers who pretend you're not there. It's surprising how they suddenly notice your presence when you've just stuck a massive crater in the side of their grotesque tin box Laughing

Not much use if you've been knocked off and they've scarpered...but the secret is to not get knocked off LOL

The amount of times this has happened.. seems a daily occurance now. Agreed though, treat every other road user like they're stupid.

usually just drive past glaring at them shaking my head.. seems to get the message to them..

Might start carrying a baseball bat in a shotgun holder so you can just swing it out..

I've had a few near misses and an even closer one this morning on the way to work.
A left hand drive car coming from the left approaching a roundabout that I'd already started to go across, the idiot just kept going and must have missed me by a few inches.
One thing though is that I recognised the car as it's often outside one of my neighbors houses - think I'll be having a word Evil or Very Mad

Yup i've had exactly the same. I swerved to avoid a pickup truck, coming around a bend on the wrong side of the road.

Missed it, got too much rear break , skidded and landed up landing on my back. My back protector took the bang, thank god.

I didn't bother with the police (pick up driver drove off) , as they have never been any use as a car driver.

Saying that if I had the reg, yeah i'd have gone to the police.

Glad your okay.

It sort of made me super cautious, every junction I see a car, I slow down.

One tip, stare at the wheels, not the driver. You'll notice the slightest move.
