can somebody tell me the correct answer?

need your brains people, as some of you know i have my mod 2 next week and there is just one question im still not sure of.

You are following a bus and you see it is indicating and about to pull over, you look ahead and it is safe to overtake. now this is the question....

When you are about to overtake the bus do you indicate right to move out and then overtake the bus?

I thought you do but when i overtook the bus my insutructor said you don't need to, just a right shoulder check will do, is this correct?

i would indicate as you wont fail for inidcating in a situation like that but you could fail if you didnt

I would only indicate if i was crossing the centre line otherwise you will confuse oncoming drivers who may think your turning right. I didn't do it on my test as far as i can rememeber

In normal riding i wouldnt indicate to overtake a bus. This might change if there were vehicles close behind me that i was concerned about..

For what it's work I was always told that you only need indicate for an overtake if you are crossing the white line.

you 'can' indicate, but dont have to as long as you give an obvious shoulder check.

so if you feel more comfortable indicating you can, however, if there are any junctions or laybys/driveways etc.. on your right you will fail for giving a false indication.

personally, id just shoulder check and carry on. i wouldnt indicate unless i was changing lanes or taking junctions

On a test, I'd indicate, in reality, I don't.

So to sum up, some of you will indicate and some of you won't

Ok, I think im going to NOT indicate and just do a shoulder check just incase there is a junction ahead. ( like my instructor told me )

The reason why I questioned my instructors answer is because I remeber from my driving test that I had to indicate to overtake a bus, this was like 8 years ago though

MIRRORS then Lifesaver

Your changing road position so the examiner wants to see you check mirrors then lifesaver then manouver.

And remember your lifesaver is to make sure there is nothing in your immediate blind spot, not to check what is on the road behind you, thats why you have mirrors.
If you consistently use your lifesaver to check behind you you will fail and you won't be the first one to do so.

As for indicating its all about who are you indicating to? If there is someone there then indicate if there is not then there is no need.

For a bus if it has been there a while I will always indicate as it will shows the bus driver your overtaking, otherwise he may just pull across the road thinking your slowing behind it.

Best thing to do is remember that everyone is an idiot and a bus is an idiot you don't want to fight with, so do whatever you can to make sure everyone knows what your doing.

I'd indicate in that situation if I was taking the test, but only a couple of flashes. That's what I was taught to do back in the mists of time when I did my part 2 training.

Depending on the situation I might use my indicators in normal riding.
On a test I wouldn't. ...I think... I would listen to my instructor though.
