VFR 800 vs ZX6R

I am in the process of looking for a new bike for me and the Mrs to enjoy over the summer.

There is a ZX6R '96 not far from me, which the fella is asking £1200 ONO for. He said it hasn't been ridden much over the last year (done about 11k miles). It has just passed its MOT and seems in good nick (I am going to view it this weekend).

Then there is a VFR800 '99. It's about an hour and a half away and is going for £1500 (guy is not too flexible with the price). He used it to commute and has done 55k miles. He said he has slid twice on it, so there is a little cosmetic damage, but nothing serious wrong with it. He seems like more of a biker than the first guy though. But it is far to go and view...

So I am unsure what to do. The ZX is more my type of style, but I think the VFR would be great for the weekend trips, comfortable and its a Honda!

Any one got any suggestions?

The ZXR has 11k miles on it? It will probabl;y be in Much better condition and look much better than the VFR and it is cheaper? Thatw ould be my choice.

Buy neither and wait for a G/J (1998-2000/2000-2002) model to come up for arund £1600 with less than 20k miles on.

Theres lots out there, just be patient.

I think I am leaning towards the Kwaka.

I don't have much money to play with at the moment, so could do well by getting the ZX in the mean time...

Then I can do a bit of saving and get a nice sports tourer in the future.

But this way I can introduce Mrs Skeniver to the joys of riding (current bike don't have space for her on the back) and upgrade next year!

I'm with reuben - also consider a zx C/E model zx9 - still a bit less weight than the VFR I think, better suspension and lots of midrange without silly vtec systems.

Id imagine the VFR would be better and more comfy (especially on the back),for the 'two up' touring type stuff .
But it depends how much the missus is gonna be on the back and how much you want her to like it Numb bum can put people off

If she's only gonna ride with you when the moon turns blue , get the bike you'll enjoy the most

i can personally reccomend this VFR800 of the same age for £300 les.

ZX9R-C's can be had for about 16000 if you know where to look. They have very grunty and economical engines. You can do anything you want with the ninjas... tour, track, scratch. They're really not that bad machines. The only niggles they have will be tired suspension and brakes. But other than that, kwak engines are bulletproof. I had a ZX6R and I pretty much moved house with it (panniers + tailpack on the back to the hilt and tankbag). Practical machines.

ZX6R-F's i'd advise against because parts are getting hard to come by nowadays. I sold mine last year for 1200 with 33k; new hagon shock and swapped the engine (I blew the other one up because I neglected to change the air filter... sand + piston bores = ).

Get the ninja because you won't have difficulty selling it no matter the milage. The servicing will be easier since it's an inline 4 instead of a V4. And on the whole they only weigh 200kg wet (claimed dry weights for the 6R's are about 170... 180 for the 9R's).

Id definetly wait it out for a G or in particulat a J model. Much better bike. Or maybe a tt600, I looked at those before I bought my ZX6R. Seemed a decent bike for the money - not quite as quick as the 6R but decent for a pillion.
