Afternoon all,

I've just set up a forum and would like to limit access to the forums by asking users to apply to certain forums like BCF.

I can't see the setting anywhere.

Anyone have any experience doing this, Korn?

David.

Just google phpbb scripts

Don't look up regional scripts, look up usergroup permissions. I've not used phpBB for years but I'd have thought it'd be built in. You setup some public usergroups and setup permissions on individual forums so that only those specific usergroups have access.

Hmm, i can see where to set the usergroup permissions and have one set up. But i can't see where to only allow access if the user is a member of that group.

Or in fact where to put the text to join the group.

I don't quite follow your first concern - if you've setup the usergroup permissions then that will automatically restrict access to users within that group. The trick is to ensure that all of the other usergroups do not have access.

In BCF's case the 'join this group' link is just part of the forum description, and links to the corresponding group overview page. You can grab those links for your site from the equivalent Groups page (https://www.bikechatforums.com/groupcp.php).
