I know the specs well. They're why I chose the Desire after nearly 15 years of Sony phones.

It's a nice phone, but far from all conquering.

Glad your happy with it. Just hope it lasts longer than the recent dire phones Sony Ericsson have brought out. Used to be the dogs danglies but I would never have one again.

Fool. HTC Desire kicks the X10 out of the water and was the first phone to knock the iPhone 3GS off the techradar top 10 phones out now.

Takes a brave person to spend that kind of money on a Sony Ericsson as of late, got insurance on it? Wink

HTC really are going places though, they've properly shed the OS woes that were always their downfall over the last few years, the hardware is rock solid and plus the unofficial software support through xdadevelopers is a huge boon even if they don't like to admit it, the only area left that they are well and truely behind is the camera/video modules they use, the day they bring out a legend/desire style handset with a camera on par with something like the Vivaz or N86 will be a very grim day for the rest of the phone industry indeed Thumbs Up

Still, it should be an interesting year for phones, the iPhone HD of course, WebOS finally getting some investment and engineering clout behind it care of HP and MeeGo has the potential to be the biggest leap forward since the original iPhone if Nokia manage to not make a mess of it. One can hope eh Neutral

Ok.

I know a couple people who have chosen an X10 since me instead of Desire. Confused

The best camera yet on a phone has been on the W900i, but didn't seem to be around long (my dad couldn't even get a replacement).

Meh, Sony needed a phone to get back in the game from the recent shoddy ones - this is it.
Sony's problem has been lack of direction, making about 5 new models of phone at once that do the same thing on old firmware. This is a new step for 'em. Thumbs Up

I'm still getting used to the whole new OS, never mind the phone's features. I feel like a 5yr old boy in ToysRus

Eh? Maybe in 2007, things have moved along quite a bit since then though. The N86, Satio and Vivaz are quite a way ahead in terms of camera performance and whilst I can't say I have much faith in it being a particularly great phone, the N8 has the technology to really move the goalposts when it comes to mobile camera quality.

I don't know what it is, but mobiles are probably one of the few bits of technology that doesn't excite me at all.

18month, Phone was free and I've already chucked it once Embarassed , I was 'chucking' it to the edge of the bed the other night (as you do lol) when it fell down to carpet and bounced across the room.

It's survived like 2 weeks of my abuse; it's pretty solid. Wink
(think I got ins tho, il be checkin since it is worth 'bout £450)

You may want to check that Steve, the research I did indicated the lack of multi-touch on the x10 was hardware and not necessarily an android issue.

See, your phone is completely made of fail. Apparently 2.2 will be out on the 19th may. I was reading an article that said it increases performance on the nexus one (which hardware is pretty much the same as the desire) by 450%! As if my phone could get any quicker.

Some will lead, others will follow. Sony/Ericsson aren't fresh meat in the Mobile market so while you sit there mocking it you have to realise, this is Sony's first real stab at this kinda device, HTC are established at it - yet still being beaten Wink

One site's take on the comprison:
Quote:
A further possible problem comes from the fact that the phone's stuck on Android 1.6, meaning that you miss out on many of the improvements Android 2.1 offers. But Sony Ericsson have already managed to replicate much of this functionality and they also assure us that 2.1 updates will roll out later this year; we can only hope that they keep to a better update schedule than the woeful 'always coming, never arriving' efforts of certain other Android phone manufacturers (*cough* HTC *cough*).

Then:
Quote:
The X10 really is selling itself as a Sony Ericsson phone first and foremost, that does all the things you expect a Sony Ericsson to do well - just with the added boost of an extensive and rapidly maturing app ecosystem. As such, it points the way to how a lot of people might end up using Android; quietly, in the background, with many of them possibly not even really knowing that it's there at all.

My issue with it:-
Quote:
However, multi-touch is not supported. Unfortunately, it won't be supported even if Android OS was upgraded to version 2.1 (or later) due to "hardware issues," according to Sony Ericsson. Unlike other handsets with Google's OS, web pages and photos can't be zoomed in by pinching. Instead, zooming in can be performed by pressing the icons marked by the plus and minus signs that show up on the screen in certain situations. It's one of the biggest downsides of the phone.

As time goes on, this phone will go down a treat and once it has an upgrade or 2, and get's established in the consumer market the Desire will have been a ripple in the pond.
(btw, how can you increase something by 450%? so when 2.1 is on mine il say the phone's useability is increased by 600%?) Laughing

I'd say that @ £630 over the 18 months that it's far from free.

I am sorry but the Desire kicks x10's ass.

no multi touch, that went out with charles' hair.

Also, desire for £22.50 a month, 600mins, unlimited everything else or £35 a month for x10 which is outdated compared to desire.

hmmmmm
