Somewhere in the middle, it depends how I'm feeling.

I often ride the TDM like a crosser putting loads of weight on the front and hanging a leg out.

Occasionally slide a buttock over a bit, but mostly upright. I don't push the bike hard enough to warrant clambering all over it.

I hang off too much... seeing that I DO come from the land of the orangutan. I get it wrong because my arse hangs off more than my torso/head.

I tend to lead with my chin and shoulders and support/press with my outer knee, but my backside doesn't shift much.

I was following a guy last weekend who was hanging off in a weird way - his shoulders and head were in line with the bike but his lower half was really twisted so his arse could hang off.

Looked uncomfortable and pointless.

I find it a lot easier to lean the bike if I shift my weight over a bit.

Usually, its just my torso, but sometimes I shift my bum.

I dont reach for the ground with my knee though.

Can't ride upright it feels horrible and the bike doesn't feel anywhere near as planted, although if i was on a commuter it would probably feel ok.

Hang off lots, in most situations.

I bit I suspect - however of course it means learning a different 'feel' which can slow you down for a while.

Hanging off makes a bit more sense on modern sports bikes with big tyres. However, even on older bikes it's going to have some advantages - for instance allowing the suspension to 'work' better with bumps in the road as it working more in the plain of the undulations..

i just about always whip out the supermoto style,
too many years on dirt bikes Very Happy
on the road bike i usually alter how i rode depending on the circumstances, if i really want to get around a corner fast ill hang off a bit, but normally ill just lean the bike over, if i start grinding pegs then im going to fast.

Hailwood was pretty quick without hanging off.

I think the old bikes had triangular profile tyres and were designed to be leant over. The frames probably flexed enough laterally to give some good suspension anyway!

I think im more upright than ape hanging off, but i stick a knee out, shift my bum a bit and weight the inside peg so somewhere inbetween.

Proud to be upright ... and still keep up with the young monkeys that hang off.
Never stick my knee out ... very slight movement of buttocks ... I like to think its Hailwoodesque. Smile

If you just stuck your knee out you'd be doing the same as the guy on the right, top half looks exactly the same Confused

As with the above picture. 99% of the time i'm just sat on the bike, i'll shift my weight about a bit when i think it's justified, but i don't bother poking my knee out.

I was out riding with some mates a few years back, we were all going a little too quick round a roundabout when a police car pulled up. The only one of us to get a bollocking was the one who was poking his knee right out.

Looks like you need to hang your torso off more - 'kiss the mirror'.

he said i need to get a good half of my but cheek off the seat, which i presume would bring my torso over as well? or do i need to do both?

Does it actually produce quicker lap times hanging off more?
