Be careful calling it Adagio, as that is a style rather than a specific piece. Look up the following:

Ave Maria
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xWi0x_aOzeM

Moonlight sonata
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w2cFEHM9yMw

Beethovens 5th
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zhcR1ZS2hVo

1812 overture
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u2W1Wi2U9sQ

Dance of the goblins
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XUTHbvoXE74

Cavatina
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mwvDon1_iKs

I could go on but there is a bit of a mix there and hopefully something you don't know and like.

it`s a funny old thing? how you sometimes look to the past.

i`ve been spending a bit of time lately, listening to early Brian Eno stuff Smile like "baby`s on fire" and that brilliant guitar work with Robert Fripp, or some gentle music that to me has some "power" about it, for example Brian Eno`s "Ascent"

or have i lost the thread?? Smile

Never been one for actually listening to lyrics, I've always been more moved by the actual music and melodies of the vocal lines and how they mix with the rest of the music.

I find I'm increasingly being moved by stuff like this:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dhHKfSFGdUI - Cinematic Orchestra - To Build a Home

The way it starts out as one man and a piano then builds into a massive piece is incredible, I had this on loop for about a month when I first got it.

Barber's Adagio for strings, makes me think of Homeworld a computer game that uses it for a sound track.

I played this game the other day, and while most games are off there time and look dated now, this one still somehow has the same impact and is only slightly dated.

I also quite like William Orbit's Adagio for strings - dance remix of the original

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SRqndwCqa5g

sounds slightly dated now, but still good

The next link isnt classical, but is a bit dreamy in a similar way, so worth a listen.

Orbit's version wasn't dance, it was just a synth version of the song:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eKJo0ivaUR0

It's really good though, the whole album is awesome.

The one you posted is the Ferry Corsten mix, i think that the Tiesto one is a bit better:

Its interesting to hear how the song evolves as various people remix it. I like the Ferry mix better than the tiesto but that might be my bias just cos I like most of Ferry's stuff in general.

Song has been a bit polluted I think by hearing it in school disco's and college parties etc etc. I either want trance to be phat and bangin' or more ambienty and slow. The adagio for strings is a bit middle gorund and lacking meat for me.

When it comes to in your face slightly cheesey thumping trance Ferry is the best there is. Tiesto does some good chilled stuff but it is good to hear a good thumping track from him now and then Very Happy

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y15gQfRDM9A

Forever today, awesome mix of trance with some classical style strings.
Hunting for that video turned up another gem i'd forgotten about. Faithless singer + tiesto = Very Happy

Try John Coltrane - Central Park West

Thumbs Up

As far as heavyness goes, i personally don't think you can beat the combination of Prince Far-I and Culture - Black Reggae Music

I have Super Ape, although my fave LP of Scratch's is probably Blackboard Jungle.
Best reggae tune of ever is without doubt Tubby's dub of Jacob Miller's cut of 'Baby I love you so', King Tubby meets Rockers Uptown - incidentally the 1st roots/dub LP i ever got.

Mozart's Requiem never fails to move me, but not always to tears; although I don't have a religious bone in my body, the fact that we all inevitably face death means that this mass still has some significance in my life.

It's such a beautiful work filled with pathos, and when you consider he wrote it as he was dying and it ended up being his own requiem, well wow! my spine's tingling just thinking about it. The first two movements (linked) were probably written in their entirety by him, though later movements were probably finished by his students and Süssmayr (one of his "peers"), but none-the-less it is imho still a fantastic piece of music.

I bought it from Welwyn Garden City library during a clear-out sale circa 1990. I paid the princely sum of 50p for it. I'd only discovered roots reggae earlier that year (a borrowed mix-tape from a German punk i knew), and this was my first encounter with dub - suffice to say it blew my teenage socks off then, and it's been a regular on my turntable ever since.

It's by far and away the most sublime dub in the history of dubs - the interplay of the Pablo's melodica and the guitar chops answering each other, the reverb on the drums, the way the snatches of Miller's vocal cuts in and out of the mix.....dubs just don't come any fatter or better produced than this.
