 |
|
I took the plunge and bought a new YBR125 for the daily commute. Picked it up on Saturday and have just been giving it a wipe down when I noticed what appeared to be corrosion on a joint on the head stock. Anyway have gone all over the bike frame and where ever there is welding there are silvery/coppery traces. Doesn't seem quite like the usual iron oxide rust but I am extremely concerned all the same. In some places though it almost looks like droplets of liquid splashed on the weld rather than rust though it won't scrape off with fingernail. Perhaps residue from the manufacturing process?
Or is it corrosion? If it is, there's so much of it the bike will be a wreck within months.
This is the weld around the rear suspension mount:

It is not corrosion, it is however a shockingly sh1te spray job!!
Looks to me like the paint hasn't taken properly - probably due to oil or other deposits on the metal!!
Does it look unsightly - yes ... do I think it is a problem that requires concern because it is dangerous - no! ____________________ The purpose of life is to fight maturity. |

Have to laugh at the dog shit welding and the spatter all over it in the second pic. I'd get crucified if I turned out something like that.

Indeed. I knew the YBR was made in China, but had assumed that, being a Yamaha, it would be made to a good standard.
Anyway what I am worried about is rust setting in on a brand new machine. Planning to go down to the dealer and complain about it tomorrow. ____________________ Yamaha XJ600N |

Those Photographs are dreadful.
You should be ashamed calling some poor auld Rice Muncher a shit welder.
If he were to see your shoddy pics he'd call you a shit Photoglapah.
You maybe can reject the bike under the sale of goods act.
It is normally a bit of a hassle though. Where you will have to prove it's not fit for purpose.
They may offer to rectify if you accept then you have the worry that its not done properly.
But it's probably sound. I bought a new car that had Polish in the door seals. I was not happy about that as I didn't ask for polish in the door seals. I chinned them soon as I saw it and was asked to bring it back for a valet a week later. Whilst I scoffed their cakes and coffee in the sales room.
But I am a cnut.
I would mention to your dealer and ask them to give you an engineer's report in writing for the condition of the painting. ____________________ W-ireless A-rtificial L-ifeform L-imited to O-bservation P-eacekeeping and E-fficient R-epair |
