Carb question

I've taken the float bowl off the carb (CB250RS) and found half a teaspoon of powdery/gritty white crap in the bottom, so summise that my fuel must have got contaminated.

Is this likely to have been the cause of the bike bogging down and conking out?

I'd rather not go fiddling inside the rest of the carb unless necessary.
Apart from the crap, the rest of the bowl/float pin etc are pretty clean.

Will be cleaning out the tank and fitting a fuel filter next!

Id check the pilot jet whilst its accessible, its the one that blocks up first and causes terrible low rev running issues, also check the float height.

stinkwheel Well I just had my hands up a pigs fanny. Which makes your concerns pale into insignificance.

It's worth popping out the main jet and needle jet (biggest brass screw in the middle, the main jet is screwed into the needle jet which is screwed into the carb body). Look through and see if they look dirty or blocked, then give it a good squirt with carb cleaner.
Screw the mixture screw all the way in, counting the turns, then remove it and spray plenty of carb cleaner into its hole. Screw it back in all the way, then out as many turns as it was before.
Remove the drain screw, spray lots of carb cleaner into the float bowl, and spray it down the brass tube that extends up from the float bowl. The nozzle on the carb cleaner should fit down this hole.

A fuel filter is a must. The only bit you could have adjusted doing all of this is the mixture screw. If you forget how many turns, the default setting is 1 3/4 turns out.

I think the main reasons for my one bogging down like a bastard are the brass jet set into the float bowl being blocked, and the idle circuit (mixture screw bit) being blocked.
