My first tankslapper!

Well folks, had my very first proper tankslapper yesterday. Unfotunetly never managed to rescue it.
Both my and bike are mostly ok.

Having just exited a roundabout in Dundee, there is a sweeping right hander leading onto the Riverside. Having just came round this corner the rear end slid out; which I managed to correct. But as soon as the rear came back in the bike stood straight up and started going lock to lock. Not really sure what happened next but after about the 6th set of lock to lock the bike spat me off. Cue me and bike skidding down the road.

My foot had become pinned under the bike, some bloke came running over and lifted it off while we got it into the layby which I had just about reached along the floor! Couple of folks stopped and were really helpful. I took a bit to check over myself, thankfully was wearing all my kit. My boot is worn straight through and theres a small scuff on my trousers but other than that; completely unscathed. The bike is almost as unharmed as me. The useless mirror took some of the impact (bin job) the front brake lever has seen better days, rear brake lever bent, scratches on exhaust guard. Pretty light too

The front pistons were pushed back in the callipers so the slapper must have been reasonably violent.
Im thankful that things werent worse and thanks to the car drivers who stopped to help me out!

Looking back at the corner theres a drain cover that is completely slick just about where I lost traction - combined with the wet weather yesterday could explain alot. Poor observation on my part.

Anyone else had the dreaded slapper?

Nope not had that happen yet, touch wood. Only been riding bigger bikes a short time.. Must have shit you right up. They say you should power out of it but I bet power is the last thing you think of when the bike is trying to buck you off.

I once had severe tankslapper coming out of a bend down the Snake Pass towards Glossop on an old, steel pedal bike at 40mph (wearing just a pair of lycra shorts and a cycling jersey).

I almost shat myself and I thought I was going to be off.

Braking made it worse and I ended up riding into a grass bank to stop.

I caught a potential highside on my 'Blade and then it turned immediately into a tankslapper that threw me off.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

Same thing happened to one of the WSB boys at Monza at the weekend didn't it ? I think it was one of the Leon's. Back stepped out and nearly highsided before he caught it and that in turn caused the front end to shake pretty violently. I wouldn't have wanted to be the one who had to wash down his leathers afterwards

They're no use to anyone.

I had my first serious one the other day taking an uphill corner at speed and hit some pot holes / damaged road and the front just shook violently side to side. I thought I was coming off and it happened so quickly and was over quickly.
