Sealant for fitting a slip-on can?

Just looking at the fitting instructions for my new Fuel can, an it says to "place a small amount of sealant inside the inlet [of the can] and slip onto the connecting pipe".

Sealant? What sealant?

The free mint cake was nice, but if it needs a little bit of sealant, why not include it! I presume if I don't use any it'll blow slightly/alot?

i used a tiny bit of exhaust paste, something like gum gum.

I used Walker's Exhaust Sealing Putty, but I'm sure the Carplan one is just as good: eBay items for exhaust putty
