The worlds fastest street legal car is NOT the Bugatti Veyron, the SSC ultime aero is.
https://www.ridelust.com/wp-content/uploads/ssc_ultimate_aero.jpg
And yes i was talking about the Thrust SSC being rear wheel steered as an example of how a rear wheel steered car can remain stable at high speed. I thought citing the worlds fastest car was quite a good example
It also most certainly IS a car, 4 wheels, steering wheel, seats, car.
Rear wheel steering on a bike is more complicated as complex linkages would be required to convert handle bar movement into rear wheel angle change over the length of the bike. This angle change would possibly need to be scaled proportionally to keep the bike controllable.
It's certainly doable, but provides no real advantage. |

With six degrees of steering movement, I wouldn't want to do a 3 point turn in the Thrust SSC. ____________________ British beauty: Triumph Street Triple R; Loony stroker: KR1S; Track fun: GSXR750 L1; Commuter Missile: GSX-S1000F; Cheap project: CBR900RR FireBlade
Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another. |

I heard the SSC ultime aero was faster than a veyron but didnt think it was officialy tested. In anycase you cannot look at the thrust ssc and call it a car lol!! Thats a bit like calling James May "The Stig".
I agree with you on the bike thing though. How would they get the rear wheel to steer if it were connected to a drive chain. It would mean sending drive to the front wheel and cock up everything we know about riding bikes. It would be the most Clarkson idea "in the world". |
