Hi guys i've got a 88 FZ 600 and it'll take about a year to get it restored. My question is this 33hp Restriction as my lad really likes the bike more than me,But is still a learner on his CG125 at the moment. Can you do the mod yourself or is it a dealer only thing?? and what do you need.
Advise please

You can restrict it to 33bhp however you like, as long as you're happy that it is 33bhp. The law also doesn't state where the 33bhp is measured from, the wheel or crank. Insurance companies might try and trick you into thinking it has to be an F1 international restriction kit, it doesn't.

For my brother's CB1 we found the dimension of the restriction washers, then went to a local engineering company who had some washers of a similar diameter. So we have bunged those in and it seems about right Thumbs Up

Its something you can do. All you need are the washers of some dyno time and a throttle stop.

If you get the sizes of the blades you can get some made for not much £.

No legal obligation for certification or any proof needed, just that it is restricted, and then if the police believe its not its up to them to prove it.

Thumbs Up

You have to have a certificate I think for insurance purposes. As far as I know you have to get it done by a mechanic who supplies the document.

No, they "may" ask for you to prove it, either get a dyno or give them this.

I didn't get asked.

So the insurance may need to see proof its been done? and the cops have a rolling road with dyno.
Someone said it's just washers in your carbs is that right??

Yes on carbed bike you restrict the amount of air flow into the engine. One in between the carbs and the head.

The police will recover the bike and take it to a dyno where they will test it.

I have only herd of one person on here being asked by their insurers for proof. MCE don't. (personal experience)

I also think declaring it has them, they add it as an engine modification that bumps up the price. Not sure but i recall someone saying this, please correct me if im wrong.

I was never asked, although they probably thought my bike wouldn't be putting out that much power. I had a dyno print out to prove it though. Falcon insurance ask, as my brother found out, clicky. I would steer clear of them

I have heard of people restricting their bike using a home made throttle stop too Thumbs Up
