you know the bikes i mean, you really love them, you idealise them, look at pictures of them lovingly saying 'i want to own one'
...then the time comes around, you have enough money to buy the bike, but you just cant do it, you end up buying something else. The reason for me is i can usually buy something a lot better for the money, granted i don't lust after it as much, but its a better buy.
for me its the
tlr100r
98 R1 in white and red
2002 R6 (although i do own one now )

Ducati 749/999
They are stunningly beautiful, and affordable - and I was ready to buy one - until I sat on one .
Too tall, too narrow, reach to bars seems too long, too heavy. Seat made from a piece of board. Just didnt feel right. My dreams shattered in a moment
Still enjoy looking at them from time to time tho
Also the Hypermotard - but again probably wont own one anytime soom for similar reasons. |

I always kinda like the idea of an early TL-S, however the reality is it'd suck a bit.
I'd also like a go on a decent turbo bike, but not sure I'd go as far as owning one.
Think I've got the majority of bikes I'd like to have or close enough that I'm happy enough with what I have.
Two bikes that do spring to mind that I couldn't justify buying but would like to are:

A highland - now soon to be being made in the US it seems, so I may have the chance some day.

Ducati Multistrada - but I wouldnt even get to the point of "I have enough money for one", I cant justify the massive price tag ____________________ Theory test - 19/8/09, CBT - 11/10/09, MOD 1 - 16/8/10, MOD 2 - 27/10/10

A fully stunted Kwak 636.
Totally fucking cool! Stunt riding is awesome, A passion.
Wouldn't want one, purely because of how impractical they are.
Not so much as a physical bike. But all the baggage that comes with it.
Unless you are on the back wheel at walking pace. They handle like shite.
Unwanted attention everywhere you take it.
And simply looking like a peasant while riding it. At a glance, they look like complete sheds. Almost rat bikes. |

Bingo
Do want because it's just stunning, and it was the bike that I grew up wanting.
Don't want because it's a real case of never meet your heros.
My other little quandry at the moment is a Yammy XJR1300
Do want because it's retro awesomeness
Don't want because it's bloody heavy and I don't think I can wheel it backwards into my garage, which makes things awkward |

I presuming you mean affordable and available bikes that you want to and have the opportunity to own but don't want to.
So for me...
VFR800, I love the idea of the V-Four engine, the easy riding style, the looks, and the fact it can keep up with sporty bikes. But in reality I know it's heavy and the engine isn't very responsive.
Ducatti 996. Beautiful bike, stunningly beautiful, and affordable too. The engine is meant to be great, the handling superb and the sound unmatchable. But if I were to own it, I'd look like a dick and It would be an atrocity to commute on.
Any moto cross. Green lane-ing is fun, off-roading is fun, dirt tracking is fun, anything involving bikes and dirt is fun. But no where to do it around my area.
Early 90's blades, preferably an urban tiger. So retro cool, and powerful and quick to match. But having ridden newer and more powerful machines, I think it would destroy my dream.
Sure there's more. ____________________ ZX6R C6F.
Never argue with an idiot. They'll only bring you down to their level, and beat you with experience. |

Ducati 998.
I love these, owned a 916 and want the same shape, with more power! hence 998.
But, even though I have the money to go out and buy one, I just can't justify spending that much on one. In fact, I don't think I'd ever be willing to spend over 5k on a bike full stop!
I'd certainly never buy a new bike, I cant bear the thought off losing so much on depreciation, plus I like the older classic bikes.

I did it i bought a Honda CRF 450 R (not an x gotta remember that) supermoto. Absolute hoon of a bike, but being kickstart only, motocross service intervals (5hrs oil changes) and daytime MOT only, its a pain on the road. Then add in rock hard hard seat, 8l fuel tank, and the fact that it destroys tires - C+S etc in a heartbeat, cant carry pillions, wheelie's off the throttle in 4th, nearly cost me my license 3x, its a fair bit costly lol, and hard to 'relax' on. But i knew this when i bought it and tbh im happy i still did, although it'd be nice for an electric boot every now an then.
Aprilia SXV 450 VDB (see above just bigger bill for the bike lol)
TM 660 SMX (basically just as above but with even more steroids)
'98 R1 in red + white, look amazing, sound awesome, immensensly renown... but.. having had a go on a new R1 (2007) I'll just be dissapointed i know
Duke 998 basically the same as the R1 just with a bigger bill for when ya drop it.
Any Bimota, something that pretty is bound to be a let down when it probably handles as good as a duke, but you pay another £2k for the pretty-ness and privelage.
Honda CR500 motard, had a go on one too... Expected an absolute beast, hugely powerful engine, 2stroke hit, very light-weight etc etc... was 3s faster a lap on the CRF, and the CRF was much nicer to ride how much modern MX 4st's have come. Although it'd be nice to have a go on an AF, see if the modern chassis etc has made it into the bike i want it to be. ____________________ Why is it everything i race, seems to be going backwards?
