Anyone use Ovi Maps on their Nokia phone?

I currently use TomTom6 on my phone but was thinking maybe with it being newer Ovi Maps might be the better option.

Just wondering how they compare

It's proper handy to have in your pocket, and more convenient than the zumo, the big downside is mounting the thing properly though. Don't forget to preload a full UK map too Thumbs Up

Sorry, i meant that i use TomTom on my Phone anyway so interested to know if there is any reason to change to something newer like ovi maps, as TomTom is from 3 years ago and can crash on occasion.

Eh, it's 100% free now if you've got a reasonably up to date handset, no reason not to give it a go imo. It's never crashed for me and the maps seem current. The older versions used to be a bit mickey mouse and half arsed compared to tomtom's software, but it's come along a long way over the last year or so Thumbs Up

I got ovi on a X6.....

1st impressions when testing on a trip to Scarborough in the car....
Took me there fine. We then went to whitby and back to Scarborough (don't ask) and parked in a car park in town center. Again no issues. Decided to set it to take me home.
1st instruction TURN RIGHT Oh fook its a one way street and that is the wrong way, 2nd instruction after turning left, was TURN RIGHT, Mmm looking up the street that was a dead end.
After that it managed to get us 2/3 of the way home when I decided to take a wrong turn Embarassed
It then preceded to tell me to take the turn on the A1 and head back the way we had come.....
Now given at that point I know that the way I was heading was by far the quickest route home, rather than turning round to get the correct turning. I was pretty fed up as it continued to tell me this for over 5 miles before it decided that I actually knew the best way home.

I have also had it tell me to do a U turn on a major road in the center of leeds.... Something that is clearly signed not to do....

At best they are nothing but a guide in a area you don't know.
The only upside is at least it works via bluetooth and as my helmet has bluetooth, its a easy task to set it going in my pocket and I can still hear it as well as the music playing Thumbs Up

I've used it a couple of times on the nokia X6 aswell, only ever had 1 problem with it telling me the wrong exit on a roundabout, very useful since my x6 came with a bluetooth handsfree and quite good in ear headphones, don't think its missed a speed camera either, but if you forget to turn the speed limit warning off it can get annoying.

compared to my garmin, i don't really like ovi maps on the nokia,
its fine and works well, but the time it takes to locate satellites is a pain in the arseeven with gps assist on, it on average takes 2-3 times as long to come online over the garmin, as a back up or really long trips then it can't really be faulted

same as hmmmnz, I've got both ovi maps and garmin XT on my Nokia E71.

Ovi maps works well enough but i much rather prefer the garmin as the road of the maps are more clearer and easier to follow.

Ovi maps are rubbish, they send you the wrong way alot, crash alot are just crap!

Ive put Garmin XT on my N97, and its much better, not as pretty to look at, but it never gets lost and never crashes!

Just found this thread. I was wandering if you can set the Nokia X6 Ovi map to where you want then just put an earpiece in and phone in pocket so it can give you instructions as you ride along?

Also lots of you are saying Ovi maps are crap so is it worth getting a reasonably new Nokia phone with GPS and getting the Garmin ones?

At present i'm using the Nokia 5140i which i dont think you can get GPS on?

this does work, my X6 16GB came with an excellent bluetooth headset, which goes on my collar, and the headphones fit in the helmet with no pain at all, also answered a call, and while she said it was windy, she could still hear me(was doing 30 or so)

This is what I do, but the problem I find is that as you move your body around when riding, the GPS seems to think im turning, or going the wrong way, it can get very confusing, and its constantly getting my directions wrong. I think It would probably be better if it was actually attached to the bike somewhere rather then in my pocket!

You must be moveing around one hell of a lot.....

Which pocket do you use ?

I have mine in my top coat pocket and it does not cause any issues in terms on changing route or losing where I am.
Mines via bluetooth as well, although that should not make any diffrence. Works well even when listening to tunes from X6 as well Thumbs Up

I use an inside left pocket near my chest, its the only pocket my leathers have!

It did it with the Ovi Maps and now it does it with the Garmin maps, its an N97 by the way, I'll see if my iPhone 4 is any better when I get it.
