Side Stand Query

Hier,

My bike comes with a little side stand, should i be wary of the thing falling over as a result whenever, be it out or under cover, i do understand the need to place the stand on a solid surface, just don't want to find my brand new bike on the floor unless i've spilt it there ...

Oh, park it in sheltered place out of the wind if you can. OE mirrors aren't cheap. One of my first 125 owning 'lessons". My second "lesson" was don't buy OE mirrors.

when you say small i'm guessing the bottom 'plate' of the stand? my CBR's sidestand leaves the bike at a fairly steep angle, if you push it from the right side gently the rear tyre lifts off the ground, just have to be careful where you leave it.

If the plate is small, be careful you don't leave it on fresh asphalt on a hot day, as it will dig in!

Use a square piece of ply or similar. I got a free puck from a mag years ago. I tend to turn the handlebars to the left. Makes the bike lean more onto the stand. Also means i can't use my steering lock
I also park it into the prevailing on mega windy days(has a heavy cover on it)

So far touch wood, i've only ridden off with the side stand down once. Your bike may not allow this.

When into the wund, is that so the wind blows putting more pressure on the stand, or the other way round, in that it blows into the lowered side as it were ... excuse the thickness here ... ??

It's better if the wind blows on the opposite side to the stand. Otherwise it'll lift off the stand and fall.

I'm lucky, i use the back garden for my bike. So its sheilded from the worst. But if i get storm level gusts my bike will be getting the majority of the force pushing onto the stand or head on when i don't have room.

Y'know we really should get a 8x6 shed built.

If you have parked on a hill etc, just leave it in gear.

Just make sure you remember its in gear when you set off again.

ditto on parking on hills or even a reasonable slope.
To clarify make sure the bike is facing up the slope or hill, never down.
Of course have it in gear

Temporary/Emergency Soft Ground Spreader Plate is easy peasy.
Crush a Coke can flat and sit the side-stand on that.

If the bike leans over too far then then perhaps the pivot has been bent by previous damage or some fat twat sitting on the bike when it's on the stand.

Also remember to flip it up again before you set off, I had a bit of an embarrassing moment earlier when riding with a friend, took me a couple of minutes to work out why the bike kept cutting out .

You might wanna watch the camber if you're parking at the side of the road too. Round my way they can be pretty severe, and mean you have to park on the opposite side of the road.....

My mates SV650 once blew over the top of its side stand. That made a right old mess.

That said, with the wind we had that night, nothing short of strapping it down would have stopped it blowing over.

Yes, i'm going to rig up the chain and lock so it's not only off the ground but holds the bike in place better, when under cover and more suceptible to the wind ...
