I used to ride about down the little lanes in my village with no lid, no protective gear whatsoever, no tax, no insurance, no numberplate...and never had any trouble from anyone...ever...
It's totally up to you...you know your area better than anyone, you need to make the decisions. ____________________ Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter, and those who matter won't mind - Dr. Seuss |

I wouldn't risk it personally, there will be nothing worse than the feeling of being banned before you even turned up to the CBT and you will be kicking yourself asking "Was it even worth it?". I know you are itching to get on the road, we've all been there, but just be patient and enjoy a lifetime of riding pleasure, rather than 3 mins of farting around with 1st and 2nd gear before PC Arsehole with nothing else better to do (perish the thought of catching real criminals ) puts a stop to it permanently.
I remember when I was selling my NSR I had a bloke and his son come to look at it, they asked me to ride it up and down the road just to show that it done what it said on the tin an all that, no problem says I, just as I fired it up I saw a police bike come up my road and turn into the next. I told them to wait 5 minutes before I rode off because my insurance had finished on the NSR and I was only insured on my hornet (which I had picked up the day previous). Needless to say the demonstration was very brief because I knew the bike would sell eventually and I weren't going to risk getting fucked over for the sake of a sale. They didn't buy in the end, whether that was due to the brief demo I don't know, but it didn't matter, it wasn't worth getting nabbed for the sake of a sales pitch.

Hey,
Again, as said previously its a lot to risk to be honest.
I would have thought many clutch problems would be noticeable playing in a garden (even if you just have a few feet to pull away in gear).
Have a good fanny about, try pull away in all gears (may not work so well higher up though). I'm sure it'll be fine, i'd say wait for the CBT
