hi there, new to the site, im looking to do my motorbike course and was wondering if the test was hard, i have a hgv class 1 licence and know how hard that was, so just wondered if the bike test would b harder, easier or the same

Welcome to the site.

I assume you are going for the CBT??
If so, I'm in the same boat and I've been assured that it's pretty simple.

It's not actually a 'test' as such but it is Basic Training. It will give you the tools to get out and on your bike, after that you can go for a 'big bike' test (DAS I believe) which is more in depth and a lot more to take in - thus the course is usually held over a few days.

go to youtube and type in CBT, theres loads of tips and footage on there to help.

Advice - don't worry if there are others there that have more bike experience than you, listen to the instructor and pay attention.
Use the lunch break to relax, have a drink of water and make a few notes if need be.

Take a CBT. It's around £100 for a day. They'll show you all the basics of owning and riding a motorcycle.

If you enjoy it then you can ride about on a 125cc for two years. If you feel confident enough then go for the DAS (theory and two practicals, much like the car test) and ride whatever you like.

i use to have a 50cc so i've done a cbt before but will need to do it again, im looking to do my DAS, looking to get something around 400cc - 600cc

cbt is easy, test wasn't that hard either and i did it not long after a heart op :p

since you already drive you shouldn't need to worry about signs and stuff so concentrate on observations, lifesavers, etc. think the hardest part was the u turns since i didn't have much energy at the time, lol...

Yep,
If you want to ride something bigger than just 125, take pilon passangers and use motorways i would suggest going straight for the DAS (this should include the CBT).
These courses are generally quiet expensive (500-600'ish) but are designed for people who have never riden a bike before so you should be just fine

If you do your full test on a 125 you will be limited to 33bhp for 2 years but it will be somewhat easier (125's are easier to get the hang of), but if you dont mind spending a little more do your lessons on a 500cc and you can ride unrestricted as soon as you have passed the test.


Many people I have spoken to say the full test is hard, their quiet picky apparently but i suspect everyone just says that.

If you call up/go for a DAS course they should explain everything to you before you make any big decisions and should be able to tell you all about the tests involved.
