Ok guys.

So as you know i had the CG written off back in november and it's been sitting gathering dust for the past while.

So today, i went to metal ken's and i picked up a new frame for it Smile

The frame is a 1999, which means i'll have to get rid of the tank and plastics, and buy new ones, as the fittings are different, but it should be a good little project Smile

I'm off to work soon, but i'll post up pictures when i can.

Heres a vid of the damage to the bike if you're interested, note that i'm actually wrong about the forks, it was just twisted in the yoke.

Cheers

Dunc

That was the state after a 40mph off when a renault espace hit me Laughing

https://i624.photobucket.com/albums/tt325/duncdmc/DSC01297.jpg

The frame i have is the 1999 one, exactly the same as the one above, and the plastics i'll get will be the same anyway.

So theoretically it should look the same....

I have a friend of a friend who will spray the plastics for me cheap, and the tank, so should be a good wee project Smile

So i made a start today...

Got most of the stuff i need off, then i got most of the stuff i don't need off.

Couldn't get the swingarm, engine or forks off today, so i'll have to wait till the weekend to get them off and take them up to the garage where my other frame is to fit everything to the new frame.

HOW FUN!

Pictures...

I got bored watching the vid, why are we replacing the frame? Because it's a proper write-off?

Surely there are more pitfalls than just the bodywork not fitting on a new frame?

I'd be worried that more important things would be different too.

The frame is Cat B, not allowed back on the road.

The only parts that won't fit on the new frame are the plastics and the tank. Everything else fits.

So you're actually planning on putting old CG bits on a new CG frame except for the tank and plastics?

Haha, you loon.

Can't wait to see how it turns out Thumbs Up

Well i've had a lot of progress over the past wee while in the short amount of time i get to play with it.

Turns out theres a few more differences than a bargained for with the new frame... in that some of the wiring brackets... well... they aren't there. So i'll be making some up over the next week.

Right, so from where i left off, i got the swingarm off after a bit of trouble, one of the bushes was seized to the spindle, so i got an awesome looking angle grinder and cut the bastard off, and ordered a new spindle and bushes.

https://i624.photobucket.com/albums/tt325/duncdmc/Photo0170.jpg?t=1272757117

So once the swingarm was off, i dumped old frame in the back of the van, and started on the steering head.

https://i624.photobucket.com/albums/tt325/duncdmc/Photo0171.jpg?t=1272757234
https://i624.photobucket.com/albums/tt325/duncdmc/Photo0172.jpg?t=1272757261

Once i had it off, i gave it a right good clean before putting it all on the new frame.

https://i624.photobucket.com/albums/tt325/duncdmc/Photo0173.jpg?t=1272757289
https://i624.photobucket.com/albums/tt325/duncdmc/Photo0174.jpg?t=1272757374

Races were fine, no need to replace them... gave it a good greasing then put it all back together again.

Once that was all together again, i set to work on the fork seals. At this point my phone decided to die, so no pics i'm agfraid till i had the forks and wheels on in the workshop.

https://i624.photobucket.com/albums/tt325/duncdmc/Photo0185.jpg?t=1272757407
I managed to get a new spindle and bushes, fit the swingarm, get the rear shocks on, then when putting the rear wheel on i realised i was missing a spacer. bugger. i'll get one from somewhere.

Anyway, forks fitted, Wheel fitted, Bars fitted with some kind of ghey chopper style grips on (will have to do as they were free Wink)

Everything got a good clean before going back in the frame, so it looked kind of sexy i think... compared to the last set of pictures anyway.

https://i624.photobucket.com/albums/tt325/duncdmc/Photo0186.jpg?t=1272757539

Next job was to fit the leccy.
Got it all hooked up to where it's supposed to be, realising half the fixings are different, and there is nowhere to hold the battery. But i'll make the mounts for it at some point and get them on the frame.

https://i624.photobucket.com/albums/tt325/duncdmc/Photo0187.jpg?t=1272757609

I then got the mudguard on, and got the airbox on.

https://i624.photobucket.com/albums/tt325/duncdmc/Photo0188.jpg?t=1272757674

Next was time to check the tank i had bought actually fitted the frame.

https://i624.photobucket.com/albums/tt325/duncdmc/Photo0189.jpg?t=1272757716

Bingo.

When going through to get a trolley jack, i stopped to admire one of the old cars in the warehouse bit. Lovely old car here, a 1954? SS jaguar, apparently the first jaguar to be made, not even by jaguar... if you know your history Wink

https://i624.photobucket.com/albums/tt325/duncdmc/Photo0191.jpg?t=1272757867
It's apparently worth somewhere in the region of £25,000 - £30,000...

Then got the engine in, And fitted the tank, mudguard, and seat cowl.
https://i624.photobucket.com/albums/tt325/duncdmc/Photo0194.jpg?t=1272758037
https://i624.photobucket.com/albums/tt325/duncdmc/Photo0195.jpg?t=1272758090

https://i624.photobucket.com/albums/tt325/duncdmc/Photo0197.jpg?t=1272758206

You can see from the pics above that the side panel isn't sitting right, seems it's not the right mounts for it so i'll have to get a different one i think.

Anyway, i pushed it up against the wall to come back another day and get the rest of the work done.
By the progress of things, i think it'll be back on the road soonish, won't take too much longer to get everything fitted and cleaned/painted.

Cheers

Well it seems i've hit a wall with the bike, i can't get it to spark, as there is no power going to the coil...

I've never seen a coil with only one wire joining it to the loom.... is this normal?

I got the spacer on the back wheel, and the chain on so it's more or less built up... all i need now is a new exhaust, 2 side panels (the proper ones this time), A new seat, a new set of tyres and i need to get the wiring sorted out... going to get a mate on to the wiring since he's good with bike looms, he'll be able to sort it out methinks.

Hopefully it won't cost me too much... I'm not on a time limit so I can take my time with the buying... The bike is for the girlfriend Thumbs Up

It could also do with a new throttle cable, as the throttle sticks open. I took the carb apart trying to find out why, when i noticed the cable had snapped plastic in the middle...

I also managed to get one mirror on the bike, i'll try and find another one somewhere with the same style...

No pics at the moment, but i will get some at some point.

So, all in all, i need to get some money put away for the bike before it's running and goes for it's MOT.

Should maybe come to £150 for the lot, if i have a look on ebay.
throttle cable £5
Exhaust £69
2 side panels, £30 together, £25 each Confused
Seat £25

Excluding the tyres for £70~ as i can get them discounted at the bike shop.

£130 for all the bits?

Not too much for a running CG considering the bike, in essence, cost me £95 to buy Razz

Cheers

Yes because it earths through the frame. Do you have it bolted to the frame?

What he said ^

So yeah, bolted on the frame but still no spark.

I'll get Pete onto it anyway, he'll sort it out no problemo.
