Since I haven't done loads so far this isn't going to be an epic but I have a free few minutes so I'll make a start.

A couple of months ago I was given a vf750 by a very generous friend. It wouldn't run, the back brake had seized and it has seen a fair bit of abuse in it's life by the looks of it.

This is what she should look like:

This is what she does look like:

With a lot of things happening in my life at that time I put it in the shed with my sons bike and decided to tackle it when I could put some real effort into it.

I finally pulled my thumb out of my arse this week and got the carbs cleaned up and a new battery put in. After a few hours work I managed to get the beast to roar into life and although I still need to sort the idle out it sounds fecking amazing.

Sitting next to my sons bike in a very confined working area Very Happy

Small clip of the noise that is guarenteed to give me a hard on everytime im on the thing:

Over the next week I plan to have the back caliper off and clean it up and I'll address the idle issue before taking it for it's MOT.

After that I'm not sure what direction I should go in with it. I'm torn between just changing the Headlight and getting rid of the clocks and leaving it ratty or doing that and then giving it a bit of attention on the bodywork and a respray and making it presentable.

More updates to follow when I finally decide what I'm going to do.

Is that the one with the cam chain made of cheese? Certainly look like it. Good luck if it is! Laughing

Well it's up at 63,000 miles at the moment and theres no strange rattling noises eminating from the engine so I'll just hope that someone has in their infinate wisdom changed it at some point.

Can't beat the price either way!

Throw in a vote for making a single seat bob of it.

The one i'm thinking of had a tendency to consume itself after about 10,000 miles, so your probably ok with that one! Laughing

Looks like a really nice bike to me, can't believe you got it for free! I don't entirely understand why you would get rid of the clocks, assuming they work. If it was mine I'd leave it pretty much as it is but maybe find/make a headlight surround for it (and spray it black of course).

Thanks beechbone I was quite surprised to.

Getting rid of the clocks is more getting rid of anything that's unnecessary than aesthetics.

I've never really felt the need for a rev counter a fuel gauge and certainly not for the completely unnecessary set of warning lights. One really big round headlight and a speedo is all that's needed to clutter up the front.

I would ask how you are, sire, but the compulsion to scream 'BastardBastardBastard!' is far too high.

Looking pretty awesome, though Very Happy

I'm sorely tempted to rty and put together a larger ratbike, given that mine kinda lacks the legs for a longer journey.

Ah fair enough. I can understand the minimalist thing, but if my bike had a good rev counter and fuel gauge I don't think I could justify getting rid of them. Although I mostly just use the rev counter on my RXS to know when I'm redlining it and should probably back off or change up; which when trying to keep up with sport bikes on group rides is most of the time Razz

Extend the headlight by 6" and ditch those mirrors for something less normal.
Other than that it looks pretty damn good, especially for a freebie.
