cagiva mito mk1 clutch not disengaging

for a cagiva mito mk1

went to take it out for an MOT today. realised i forgot something. turned around and come back. then it stalled while i had the clutch in.

i noticed the cable had slipped out of the braket on the engine side so i refitted it and squeezed the bracket tight so it wont come out now.

but now the clutch wont disengage at all. i even put grips on the arm on the gearbox case and moved it to its limit. its still engaged.

neutral is still fine. it will roll about but when in gear it just sticks.

i took the casing off and the lever is working fine, bearing is fine, no broken springs and everything looked normal. put it back together and its still the same.

its strange how it suddenly just happened. i know the clutch has almost had it but it was still withing its limits when i fitted it and its been riding fine for the last 5Km.

could this just mean i need a new clutch? because i wouldve thought it would slip, not stick?

also when trying the clutch by hand, there is a fair amount of free play in the arm coming out of the gearbox before it hits the bearing.

i think i seem to remember when i fitted the casing it was already touching the arm and bolting the casing on compressed it slightly. although that may have been a different bike or a dream im not sure

can anyone confirm wheather there should be any play when its all bolted up?

shouldnt be any free play on the lever at the clutch end, in fact i can hardly move my by hand.
without stating the obvious, but have you tightened the cable up?
at the clutch end, via the 2 little nuts on the threaded part, which hooks through the bracket/holder.

the only adjustment on the mito is at the bar. when you can pull the cable out from the lever


from what i have done at the engine side of the cable should actually disengage the clutch more as the outer sheath doesnt push fully into the bracket. the inner cable still moves freely.

the only thing i can think of is that the clutch plates and friction plates are stuck together?? but that doesnt make sense as it was working then bang. not working at all.

ill be having another look sunday but any suggestions are welcome.

can also be adjusted at the clutch end. (i own 2 mitos lol)
at the threaded part, which pulls the cable tight?

I'll have a look later. And im sure when I checked it there was free play in the clutch arm.
