Well, you guy's get this a lot but im 17 and im dying to get into biking. Thanks to the helpful stickies I know about licensing and what not, I was just wondering what you guys thought of the 2010 WR125x's? I was planning on getting this new from a local dealer on finance, 0% interest. Or does anyone else have any idea's for a first bike?

Im pretty set on getting a supermoto, Dirt bikes are a little big for me and im not a fan of bikes that look like superbikes but sound like a 125.

Fairly good choice for a first bike, aside fromthe fact it is new, Most would advise against buying new and some would tell you to buy a dt supermoto as 2 strokes are better/faster.

I hear that 125 2strokes, unless they are built for racing like the KTM exc arent too relaible when used as a daily run around. But then again, I cant say I know much about motor bikes Laughing

Im not too fussed about speed just yet, need to earn my stripes on the road before I start caring about speed.

You got that backwards the ones that are built for racing aren't reliable, I believe the DT is pretty good on the reliablity front.

It is wise though to not be bothered with power, I still wouldn't advise a new bike as chances are you would drop it, I never dropped my first bike mind.

Sorry that's what I meant, the 2strokes built for racing usually arent to reliable because they are always at high revs.

The dropping thing is a fair point, but I kinda wonna come into the whole biking thing on a fresh slate, a nice new baby to get around on, with it being a Yammy im assuming it's going to have a high build quality and hold its value well?

Also, I will take a look at the DT supermoto! Thanks for the replies Very Happy

Two strokes can be just as reliable as four strokes (nearly) if you look after them.

Chances are you are going to drop that bike of yours, I'm in agreement with Chris here and suggest a DT125 or a similar bike, you'll enjoy it more and be a lot easier on your wallet.

Also, getting finance at 17 may be a bit of a struggle!

Cheers.

The wr125x looks pretty sweet as do the dt125x's. Supermoto's are masses of fun, I love mine!

Do you intend to do your full licence and move onto something bigger? If you are then I would hold off buying a new bike and go for a second hand one as you wont lose as much money when you come to sell it. Things like dt's tend to keep their value pretty well if they have been looked after.

How much would insurance be for you on a brand new bike? That could be something to think about when you make a decision.

The thing is Im not sure if I want to go for a full license in the future. I expect to buy a car when I eventually move on to have my own house (mainly for a luggage space, shopping and all that grown up stuff Wink ) However, granted I had the money i'd love to have a bike and a car. So yeah, I probably would go for a full license in the future. (jeeze I can ramble.)

So basically I should go for a second hand 125 through a dealer? So its a bit easier on the pocket?

Im not so sure on insurance, but im guessing its more for a 2stroke?

Sorry if all this sounds dumb, im just trying to get it all sorted out so I can come out on top with a nice bike for a good deal Laughing

+1 for second hand.

If you have enough cash then you can get a really decent well looked after 2nd hand bike that has been broken in nicely.

You can screw a new bike over if your not careful as the first 600miles needs to be ridden in a certain way. I guarantee that if you fall in love with a 125 then you will get the bug and try to progress to a bigger bike in the future.

Buying a bike on finance would mean paying say 4 grand for a 3 grand bike...depending on the finance %.

Thats the thing, the dealer im getting it off has a 0% interest deal on the finance. It's tempting, but I dont know what to do, brand new or second hand. I could possible get the same WR125x second hand through the dealer? would that be a good idea if it was possible? Razz

Second hand. Save the money for when you've passed your test and ready to move on to bigger, and better and faster things. Thumbs Up Don't get yourself into debt for anything....save save save.

I think I'm gonna go with a second hand DT 125 supermoto. Ride it for half a year or so then go for my restricted?
