Are their any track or event days that you can go on where you can just go top wack on your bike?

Basically a private road or runway where you can just max your bike out?

I've looked at 'run what ya brung' which might be an option (and probably the cheapest) but thats only quarter of a mile. Other options would be a standard track day on a circuit with a decent long straight...

I'm thinking something like buntingthorpe, but at a reasonable price and possibly a planned event..

Thoughts?

Try Elvington, they do alot of top speed runs.

Let me know what you get aswell, would be nice to see what the CBR can do! Although I've gone -1/+2 on my sprockets so my top speed won't be great any more!

There is a 200mph forum somewhere, I don't have the link, you'll need to ask Kickstart for the link. Anyway, Kickstart gave it to me last year as he runs there. But looking into it, I don't think my R1(which has upgrades) will be breaking any records. As some of the bikes there were heavily modded and would make mine look like it is standing still, so, I chose not to go and stuck to trackdays.

If you want a track that will test your thousand, then go to Snetterton, it has the longest straight in the UK.

If you want 1/4 mile timed fun, then go to Santa Pod.

Have fun!

Keith is the one to talk to - I've got a chat log somewhere where he mentioned other events on this year.
Hope to get along to one at some point; unfortunately it seems Elvington doesn't do as many and now they're only one mile long anyway thanks to nimby residents.

If I remember right, they were letting you do this last year at Edinburgh Airport.

Here, I found this link Thumbs Up :

Have a look on 200mph.net and straightliners.co.uk for events

G: I think they haven't done any flyers so far this year at Elvington due to damage to the runway surface caused by the snow and ice over the winter, I belive this will soon be sorted though. AFAIK its always been a 1.25 mile run at Elvington.

I always used to use the M10 (now A414) from St.Albans to Hemel Hempstead.
Whilst not strictly legal (ok, not legal at all), i've never yet seen a copper on that section of road, and have been maxxing out all my bikes and cars for as long as i can recall.

Hi

Only ones organizing them at the moment are the UK LSRA:-

UK Land Speed Racing Association

Main place top speed runs were done was Woodbridge, but that venue has pretty much ended. The build up of bushes either side of the runway has made it too dangerous.

That leaves Honnington and Elvington. Honnington isn't as long and being an operation base has various security restrictions. We did standing miles there a few months back, and while you do have a bit more space than that it isn't enough to make a massive difference.

Elvington should be sorted in time for August. Some repairs were done today but it probably needs another days work do sort out the pot holes.

Flyers used to be done at Elvington on normal 1/4 mile events, but a few of the local residents are too vocal on noise issues for them to do this anymore.

All the best

Keith

I thought it used to be a mile and a half with half a mile run off?

I can certainly remember being a bit concerned with the notoriously variable six pots on a Hayabusa being rather concerningly towards the 'bad' end of the spectrum of sponginess.

Would be an interesting event to bring the Pitty along to.
If I was to revert back to the really tall gearing, Then a potential 90-100mph would be reachable, depending on wind direction etc.

It was at Woodbridge until the end of the runway deteriorated, then it was shortened.

Hi

Elvington top speed events normally use the full runway that is a bit longer than the taxiway used for 1/4 mile events (and flyers done one them), plus ends with bumpy grass rather than a sudden hedge.

All the best

You'll love it, from memory I hit about 170/175ish down the straight, but that is the indicated speed, so might not have been that much, but hey who cares! Wink

A lot of it is about corner exit speed from the previous corner, of course - I've seen a well ridden R6 pretty much keep up with litre twins and R1s as far as max speed goes. Sure, the R6 would lose out a bit in the middle, but it'd get on the power earlier and brake a load later.

My old R6 would outdrag most things down that straight just because it was on the right gearing, I'm light and got out of the corner okish.

That said I was then done on the brakes by a less powerful K7 GXR600 on the same day. Laughing

O, and on road gearing you won't be maxing anything on the revett straight.

My 2007 R6 would just bump into the limiter if there was a tail wind on 15-45 sprockets.

As said, if you want a max speed the best thing's going to be Elvington.
