Honda's 2t V3
Honda's CBX1100, although realistically it wasnt that special.
Honda's 4t V4 Gear-driven cam engines.

I don't think much else competes with them but it'd fall down to personal opinion.

Surprisingly i'm not much of a Honda fan!

Be very suprised if many BCF'ers can name a single best bike engine of all time? I think you need to quantify your question a bit more!

Best for what?

Of the bikes I own:
For fun, I really like my KTM200EXC, but would love to try a 150SX.
For flexibility and usability my GSXR1000K6 does pretty well, but I reckon would be easily beaten by the S1000RR.
For climbing up very steep things, I haven't found anything close to my Rev 3 - but most newer trials bike are likely to be better.

I've fallen inlove with aircooled boxers, mainly down to the ease of servicing.

I replaced the top ends on my R80 motor (turning it into an R100), adjusted the valves and had it running again inside of an hour, with the engine still in the frame.

Its clearly the RD350YPVS. The LC is good but the powervalves make it into a truly exceptional engine.

If I had to choose a four stroke then it would have to be something pretty special, I'd have to say the KTM 990 V twin for its combination of light weight and stupid power. Anybody can make a heavy powerful engine, but not many people can make a light and powerful V twin.

How long is piece of string, it depends what you need from the engine as many have said. I'm happy to have one that needs minimal maintenance, does decent mpg and doesn't mean I'm stuck for power in normal traffic situations. My XJ600 is fine, 60 bhp is enough for what I need, even the old CB250 which doesn't make as much power as it used to does for most things but then I am not obsessed by power.
