I've got an old VFR400 which I'm about to sell. The address on the V5 is an old one, I haven't lived there for a while. Do I have to send off the V5 to get the address updated before I can sell the bike? The DVLA website says it can take them up to 6 weeks to send the V5 back!!

I can show the buyer my passport which has the same name on it as the V5.

How soon are you selling it? I wouldn't expect it to take 6 weeks for them to change your address, I'd expect it take 1-2 weeks and not more than 2-3 weeks.

Have you got any old bank statements or suchlike from your old address? That would go some way to putting suspicious buyers minds at rest.

Yeah, I've got bank statements and loads of bills with that address on. Should I bother updating the address then? The hurry is I've only got 2 months MOT left so any time lost dealing with the DVLA is just eating into that.

I had to do something similar.
Went to my local DVLA office in person with all the needed docs and got the new V5 in less than a week.
Thumbs Up

Normally yes. If baddog has suitable proofs of address, preferably proving the approximate date of moving then it would be less of a problem. Bills / bank statements from both places? Tenancy agreements for both places could be even better

Took five weeks for my new log book to come through (that was about a month ago now so things are going very slowly at the moment).

I suppose the answer to this is to ask yourself how happy you would be buying a bike that was not being kept at the registered address.

All my vehicles are still registered at my Dad's address. It just saves all the messing about and re-registering every time I move. Thumbs Up
