Fuel: Have you actually thought how much you use?

I do the same commute every shift, pay at the same station, give or take a few pennies the same amount each fill up.

The other day the litres filled up caught my eye and made me gasp as a reality hit home.

I use in the region of 6 to 6.5 litres of fuel a day.

When I thought thats 3 bottles of coke, I might as well have a hole in the tank, thats huge volumes of fuel being burned on the commute.

On the converse side of this thought, the bike is returning 55mpg and only costing me £30 odd a week so not alls bad.

That's about £6 a day.
To put it into context.
That's only a bit more than I spend on fags every day.
You can blow that much on a couple of pints a night down the local, which of course many people do.
At least your daily spend is serving a practical purpose.

It costs me £45 in fuel and severn crossing toll to see my gf; I could get 9 cheap hookers for that and save the environment in the process.

Cost you lots more in fuel using a car, and you get more enjoyment in travel in the process. I get:
65-70mpg on Yamaha RXS100
56-60mpg on Honda Magna 500

I have an interview for a job 15 miles away tomorrow, and it's only 3 hours a day. 150 miles a week for 15 hours pay, on a fazer 1000cc.

I'm going to have to persuade my missus to lend me her Yam SR125cc if I get the job I think

I think about it a lot, pretty much every time I have to drop-trew and bend over the counter at the filling station

I run two cars (one commuting, one weekend toy) and a bike, at a rough guess I spend around £70/week on fuel and that's bearing in mind that for 5 out of 7 days I don't often leave the m5/m6/m42 triangle

could be worse I guess, a few years back I was commuting in a car that averaged 10mpg, meaning I was spending over £100/week (I did really enjoy that car though )

I'm probably using about £20 a week in fuel at the moment, so I guess that's around 4 litres a day. My commutes only tiny.

This is just note fair!
I'm only getting 55mpg roughly and i'm on an NSR125!
Gotta figure out how to lower that fuel usage
Hope its not the way i ride it... thats the best part haha.

Still not got rid of the old 125 4 stroker, will fix it if money ever gets tight, i sware it dosnt actually use fuel, just burns fumes!!

ps, will be comuting next year to uni so that could clock up a lot depending where i end up

I'm presently getting through about £3/week doing about 90 miles, think it pans out to just shy of 100mpg.

Seriously considering keeping my 125 for commuting when I pass my test.

I didn't think about it until I saw the other thread about the costs of other peoples bikes. My little Rieju gets 160 mile for about £7, so about £7 a week for commuting + whatever at the weekend. Not bad that compared to the bigger bikes it seems. Think I will be keeping a 4 stroke 125 for a long time

I can sympathise, I've really only realised this last couple weeks what running 2 sets of wheels costs. Bearing in mind my bike doens't currently even run, it's awaiting parts but a it costs me a £1per trip to work and back, that's before I take the long way or go see mates or something.

Then there's the car... I fill that up with only what I need when I need it so it costs a minimum £10 per week, just direct routes for shopping & footy.

When the bike is runnig again il have that at about £10 per week, car at say £20 - only fuel.

£30 = nothing? Count in your insurance, MOT, Tax.. before servicing /repairs/consumables. People always say "your in a single room flat, how can you be skint"; when I run 2 vehicles/pay bills/earn >£750 a month....

I do about 120 miles per week work and back which costs me about £9 a week, ok its a 125 but is more fun and cheaper than London Underground, think I'll be keeping the baby dero purely for work after my das.

good point, maybe my maths are wrong, or maybe I just didn't top the tank up as full last time I filled it, you have to wobble it on the stand to get the last bit in.

Think I need to fill it up after six or so days of commuting... 25 miles a day more or less. Never really kept track of it that closely, too busy noticing how much more fuel my new car uses compared to my old diesel!

I used to commute a 70 mile round trip each day for about 2 years, that sucked when the weather was shite..

A tank seemed to do 3 runs (i.e. one there, one back, one there then fill - the 600F would do 4 runs though).

Fuel was cheaper when I done that, now I commute 0 miles most days which is quite nice. Occasionally I decide to 'commute' to work by blatting along some lanes and then returning home to work

Whenever I fill up the FJR for £28 I curse. Mind you that does get me 200 miles in comfort that is only bettered by my Beemer which only does 32 to the gallon & that's a diesel for fecks sake! (Albeit tuned a 3 litre one!!!)
