Hi all, I am looking to do my CBT in the next couple of months and get myself a road bike but I also want a motox bike for taking to local tracks but I can't afford both so I was thinking about getting a supermoto 125cc, I am only 5ft 4in so I need something I can fit on, also when you own a supermoto do you have to change the bike depending wether you are off road or on road stuff such as wheels/Tyres and gearing ? What bike would you guys recomend I will use the bike to get to work and back which is about 4 miles all round and also for off roading on weekends ? I will have about £1k - £1.5k to spend maybe less ____________________ https://img91.imageshack.us/img91/2232/123abc8td.jpg

Hi, I had a yamaha dt 125 re. It had nobbly tires on so was more than capable off road. Not mega fast though and can't imagine it would be great on track.
Other bikes.. KTM EXC 125.. you could have 2 sets of wheels one with sm tires and the other with nobblys for the track.
Husqvarna wr 125, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VRzohP_VUfk same as above really these bikes are quite high maintenance though so I wouldn't imagine they would be great for commuting.
Apart from that really there's not many 125's which would be suitable for both track and road.
How about getting a cheap commuter (200-300 quid) then having a motocross specific bike?
By the way you will need to change the tires on a proper MX track supermoto tyres won't cut the mustard.
Anyway hope that helps. ____________________ 450 exc enduro

Hardly, They share the same engine as the YZF R125, so to say they are over geared is foolish, the enigne in both the RZF & the WR, are the same. And currently the fastest 4stroke 125 engine in production. |
My CRM shared the engine with a NSR125, however that meant it was over-geared because of worse aerodynamics at speed - 20-24hp doesn't have a hope of hitting 100mph in an upright bike.
However, of course - sharing the same engine doesn't mean sharing the same final driving gearing
Anyway, even that's still rather missing the point - did you read the bit about a motocross track? This is what it's over-geared, under powered and over weight for, for road riding no doubt it's 'acceptable'. Though I would go for the MZ125SM - which isn't available new, but is otherwise a very similar bike for a hell of a lot less money. |

I had a Suzuki RG-80. I thought it was great at the time. The best I got out of it was about 95mph. Going downhill. With a wind behind me. Course I was about two stone lighter then, so I would probably get barely 40mph out of the same bike now! ____________________ Terrestrial HD receiver |
