Another NSR problem.

Right. I know some of you are probablys sick of me by now and my heap of shit bike that is Natalie.

Anyway on the way to work this morning I was pottering along and then the bike lost power and warbled as If I had ran out of petrol. So whilst rolling along I stuck it on reserve and went to carry on. But at about 7000ish revs the rev counter went mental jumping all over the place. I managed to limp along because I was near work. The bike felt like it was kangerooing even though I had the throttle open. It was backfiring like fuck and then just around the corner from work it made a huge bang and I only just got made it to work.

I had recently changed the spark plug for an iridium one so my first thought was on my lunch break I should change the plug back because I had kept the old one. That made no difference. So I checked to see If I had 2 stroke oil in it, it's low but the light hasn't come on the dash yet and there is still enough in there.

I checked the petrol and there is still enough to not even be on the reserve. The bike starts fine and idles fine but if you go up the revs the bike stops and kangeroos but the rev counter shoots up and down.

Any help as soon as possible would be lovely because I have left work 3 hours early tonight to get this fixed for tommorow morning otherwise I be fucked. I nearly had to push it if it wasn't for the security guard owning a van.

Check the last reply from alains (powervalve servo).

Asside that i would say get the carb appart, sounds like the jets could be blocked, check the usual suspects (air flow from air box to engine, fuel from tank to engine etc).

Due to the sudden onset it sounds like a bit of a mistery, if you do get the tank/airbox/carb etc out/off though it may be worth draining the coolant and whipping the head off whilst your there.

Get stuck in, throw up any pictures of anything unusual and i'll give it another google.

I noticed the thread that alains posted in but I didn't want to hijack it lol.

I was going to try what alains said just incase he answered saying the same thing. Except I went straight ahead and done things to the bike. Thought maybe it could be water in the carb because it rained a bit last night. Drained the float bowls etc etc etc. Then put it back together and the bastard won't start so I can't warm up for 5 minutes and try alains thing.

Also, am I fuck doing my powervalve lol.

Right it's fixed and been out and about on it and put a few more miles on it.

The reason it was broke???? well I started off by stripping and spraying the carbs with carb cleaner. Putting it all back together again. It wouldn't start. Hadies was giving me a hand so we tried to bump it but couldn't get it going. He brought a charger with him so we charged the battery while we were tinkering.

Put the charged battery in and it still wouldn't start. We realised it didn't even sound like the engine was attempting to turn over. Pulled the plug out to check. (Before anybody says I should have checked this first I couldn't I had killed the battery enough that it wouldn't have sparked if it could) We swapped plugs and tried a few things. Stripped the wire for better connection etc etc. It still wouldn't spark.

Eventually Hadrian put it down to a fucked coil or loose wire. I had a feel down the sparkplug cable and found a loose cable. Hadrian felt about and found where it went. He clipped it in and we had a spark. Put it back together and the bike fired up straight away. I rode it for a little bit and it felt a bit lame. Eventually it kicked in and It's sorted.

Tightened my chain because it was slack enough to hit the swingarm. The bike is now sorted, the noises are all gone and it's feeling better than ever. Woop woop.

Like the man said, 'problem solving is part of the fun' although not always a fun as it could be. Lose wires, bad connections, italian electrics, you live and learn. Glad you got sorted, I had no ideas but then I never regarded NS/NSR 125s as worth the bother.
