Bike Meets

In all the years I've been riding, I've never understood the appeal of bike gatherings.
I mean, what's the point exactly.
Perhaps someone could explain.
Personally, I find it a bit bizzar.
I daresay it's connected to this need that many species, including us, have, to herd together.
We need to affiliate ourselves.
Feel part of a group.
For me, biking is about riding.
I've got better things to do than stand around in a car park in the middle of nowhere, drinking tepid tea and looking at other people's bikes.
I have a neighbour who owns about 20 grands worth of Harley Davidson, and all he does is ride it a few miles on the occassional Sunny Sunday to a pub car park, where other Harley'ists gather, and that's it.
That's all he does and I don't think he's unique.
What is it about biking that brings out the herding mentality.

Bike meets are for socialising. Bike riding is best done alone or with a bird. It's not really that difficult to understand.

What looked tasty? The kids or the peds?

It's incredibly annoying,
trying to read posts laid out like this.
Has your space bar be swapped for your return key?
Why do people need to justify why they go to bike meets?
Would you question a group of friends who go to a pub together?
The concept is the same

Clubs ...might as well put some headphones on and swig a wife-beater...Shit...that's what i'm doin'

[edit] You may 'not get it' so ride past. Most of us are happy to have a rest and syphon the python whilst topping up the bladder again....and chatting even more about bikes.

the appeal is,
you get to see other bikes, you get to talk to other bikers,
and potentially you get to go for a ride to the place where other bikers are meeting,

it all seem fairly straight forward to me,
if you don't like other bikes, bikers or going for a ride, then i suppose there would be no appeal at all.

I've only ever been on one or two pre-organised ride-outs, which was nice enough, and good experience for me.
I tend to stop off at casual meetings, in areas where I know that local bikers regularly hang out.

And yes I prefer to be riding instead of hanging around car parks, but I still enjoy looking at some of the eye candy occasionally.

This topic is going nowhere. Grosvenor, you obviously don't enjoy going to these meet ups, neither do I and I agree with your point about standing around doing fuck all, it does nothing for me but I don't need to question why other people do it because what pleases me doesn't please everyone else.

Your neighbour on his £20,000 harley, he may get what he thinks to be, the best satisfaction out of doing his little trip to the pub and back, that might be all it takes for him. Most people would probably think, "That's a waste of money and a bike!". It doesn't mean he's doing anything wrong.

Stick to doing whatever you enjoy doing on your bike
