What is it with the "I've ridden more bikes" bla b

Just reading another thread and it brought this back up to me. Whenever I get talking to bikers theres always one person who likes to say something along the lines of "I've had over 20 bikes therefore I am God - Amen"

What is it that makes people think that having gone through more bikes makes something about them more credible?

I've had 2 bikes, one from when I was 4 up until about 12 and then my RVF since passing at 18 til currently 22.

If they'd had one of each type of bike like scooter/cruiser/sports/supermoto/motocross/tourer then yeah I could see a point in there as experience from a variety making for better overall, but most of the times its like 01 R1, 02 R1, 03 R1, 04 R1 and so on....

I've owned something like 150 bikes. But I like to harp on about doing over 330,000 miles on my RXS100 more. Anyone can own loads of bikes. I enjoy buying and selling bikes for very little money

I certainly consider someone that has a broader range of riding and owning bikes more credible when they are explaining the merits of a specific bike say - too many people think the bike they have is the best ever, mostly because they haven't tried anything else (possibly also due to having sunk a massive chunk of money in to it too ).

I can't be arsed to remember and count, but it's less than 20 (since I started in 1977). Three main types: off-roaders, sit-up-and-beg and sports.

I didn't truly become a god though until my last three Blades.

I quite fancy owning a six again. I had a CBX1000 years ago and it was kind of fun (in the same way owning an elephant might be fun ). I don't suppose HRC fancy lending me their 250 6 for the summer...

Over the years I've found that a lot of the bikes you think will be great actually turn out not to be, and apparently uninspiring stuff can in fact be great fun. I think that's the main reason I can't take to modern sporty stuff - it seems a bit sterile, though there's massive power, great handling and brick wall brakes, something we used to crave in the days of wobbly Powervalves and wildebeest GPz1100s.

It's true what they say - be careful what you wish for or you just might get it.
