Specshield is the gas you use when welding stainless.

Although to be fair, after actually looking at that bottle it does look to me like an acetylene one, with the shoulder on it up where the valve should of been.

Something funny about that bottle. The neck threads are showing which means the valve has been un-screwed. If that were done under pressure then I doubt the person holding the spanner would still be alive - or even identifiable!

Sounds like a day at my work. Our current mish is to successfully fire a pukka pie over the local Jehovahs witness place.

I think acetylene are normally red/maroon? That looks very like the bog standard ones we get from BOC, nitrogen or similar.

Would a brass fitting be enough to damage steel?

A friends dad had a gas bottle that decided to go flying one day. It shot straight up through the roof and landed in the field next to the workshop. Neutral

I bet whoever owns the bottle is probably still ruining their underwear if they were anywhere near it when it happened.

At my old school, a medium sized oxygen bottle got knocked over, the valve gear broke off and it shot through a wooden cabinet, breeze block wall and normal brick wall out into a field.
