Anyone got a receipt for a helmet they can give me? Doesn't matter how old the receipt is, but the higher the value the better. Wink

Not a scam.

Due to negligence on the part of a certain company I slipped and fell (they had left a load of grease in a corridor). My lid flew about 10ft down a corridor and needs replacing.

I'm claiming for a new lid and they asked 'any receipt you might have'.

I could also claim for injury (left a nasty bruise) but I just want a new lid.

You don't need a receipt, just show them the broken helmet. (If it really is broken!).

They will reimburse him based on the cost of the old one, the more expensive the receipt the more he's likely to get.

Rubbish! Just because you've lost your receipt doesn't mean you're not the rightful owner of your helmet. Are they disputing either of the following:

1. An accident (as you describe) happened
2. A helmet was damaged beyond repair
3. The helmet was yours

If they don't dispute these basic facts, tell them that you'll escalate the matter to the small claims court and include damages for personal injury too.

Go to the nearest bike shop and get a quote for a replacement helmet (same make and model) and submit that with your final letter to them.

There!

Receipts are normally required in situations where proof of purchase is at issue. ie. when you're taking something back to exchange it or get your money back.

It took several weeks for them to get even to the stage of asking for a receipt. I'm fed up of them messing me around, not returning phone calls and ignoring e-mails.

I don’t have the time/patience to mess around arguing with another company, I'm already having to fight a company over late delivery.

I just want a new helmet ASAP.

Thanks for the info anyway Mazza. Thumbs Up

Buy your new helmet, keep the receipt and send them a letter, something like this...

Dear Sir/Madam

Please find enclosed a copy of a receipt to replace my damaged safety helmet sustained during an accident on [date] at your premises in [address].

I would therefore be most grateful if you you could reimburse me [amount] as shown on this receipt.

Should you dispute this claim, please would you do so in writing within 10 days. In the event that you fail to respond to this letter within 10 days, you will leave me with no alternative but to escalate the matter to the small claims court without any further notice.

Should that become necessary, I will, in addition to the reimbursement for the replacement for my helmet, seek reimbursement for any expenses in pursuing this matter including but not limited to....blah, blah, blah

The effect of this is to really raise the stakes. Unless there's a clear reason why they're not culpable, they'll settle for the relatively small sum, as full and final settlement.

Otherwise, if you're too busy to go to all this hassle, buy your new helmet and watch where you're going!

You could also go in to your friendly local dealer and ask them to write you out an estimate for the replacement of your very expensive helmet.

If they're as friendly as the one that done mine you'll be quids in.

Danny,

Your message did not go into too much detail on why you wanted a receipt, and the fact that your asking someone here to help you with one as above indicates to me that your trying to pull a fast one, hence SCAM !!

It would be better if you went and got a quote for a new one, or go buy one and claim for that.

Ian, they no longer make my model of helmet.

Fair enough, I should have explained fully in the original post.

Hello,

I Like that legal letter sounds posh!

Id say go with what mazza said, as it's the most professional sounding version.
Also don't try and pull a fast 1 they will more than likely find out and then its going to end up something along the lines of attempted fraud, and you getting into a shed load of trouble!! For personal injury have you though about those no win no fee people?

That's all just being over complicated and not what Danny wants.

Just give the guy a receipt and be done. Very Happy
