just flicked on the news there and saw that flotilla of ships delivering aid to gaza got attacked by commando's. this was done in international waters and said they got attacked by the crew.

now if my ship was getting boarded in international waters i'd fight back regardless of who they were. they boarded the ship knowing they would face resistance and shot up a bunch of aid workers.

doesnt seem like israel is doing itself any favours by assasinating hamas commanders with forged allied passports and now this.

Something satisfying about seeing commandos being beaten with sticks, pretty ridiculous events really, especially the Isfaili prime minister trying to justify it...

ROFL was looking at it on wikipedia

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gaza_flotilla_clash

this bit must have been edited as a joke

"After the flotilla activists ignored repeated calls to turn back, Israeli soldiers armed with paintball rifles and handguns[10] boarded the ships.[4][11]"

i'd kick the crap out of someone if they shot me with a paintball gun, wouldnt you?

i wonder how long this will go on for before people forget about it like them assasinating people using other countries passports, everyone was pissed off at first but after a month nobody cared.

Civilian ships carrying humanitarian aid aren't always what they claim to be:-

Israel has learnt from past experiences that they can pretty much do whatever the fuck they want, wherever in the world they want to do it, and receive at most a mild admonishment and a light slap on the wrist.
This situation is no different, nothing will come from it.

one thing i found laughable when they said that they were only going to allow an israeli investigation into this incident and that it is the best option that is available and will uncover the truth and details of the incident and not cover anything up.

while last week they got caught out lying in an investigation into the deaths of two teenagers when they had originally claimed they had no live ammunition and had fired only rubber bullets to disperse an angry mob, only for pictures showing the two teenagers were alone and one had a real bullet lodged in his skull which was discovered when xray'd.

Just another mess brewing. Isreal does get away with murder though, they're the only 'western' representative in a volatile area of the middle east. Not sure how they can spin this out though.

That said, you don't need to be an awful cynic to realise one or more of those boats might be carrying aid of a more destructive nature.

Isreal still want to maintain their strangle-hold on everything going in to Gaza though which is wrong in my opinion. People need to do more talking I suspect.

Thumbs Up

I wish our country would take the 'no-nonsense' approach more often. Even if it is completely unreasonable. If nothing else it reminds people you don't like to fuck about.

Make a 'threat' like that just 5 times without backing it up and everyone will start to ignore you. Make it a thousand times and back it up just the once and I bet people will start take notice.

Our emasculated Navy can't even prevent piracy, let alone commit it.

had a guy on my fb join this (yes he is jewish and from israel)

https://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/group.php?gid=121348851234252&v=wall

quite a lot of the ppl on it are upset because they say its a 2010 holocaust against jews again. then others are saying if they refuse to be inspected then the crew deserve it, the ships had been inspected several times and why should they submit to an inspection in international waters?

gets tiring when they compare the victims of their attacks as nazi's wanting to exterminate them all and killing in self defence

If anyone on those boats was daft enough think that they were going to hold hands and knit daisy chains all the way to the West Bank's shores to deliver cargo holds full of kittens, then they are just as delusional as the people insisting on continuing land grabs/rocket salvos/counter attacks back in land. It was a given that Israel were going to put stop the flotilla, although the way they went about it kind of beggars belief.

I don't think the people on the boats expected a trouble free passage, I think they were well tooled up for bother. There are bleeding heart liberal types who support the Palastinian cause who would've linked arms na dgot knkocked about, but there are a great many (who aren't Palastinian or members of Hamas) that don't mind (probably welcome) a ruck if push comes to shove.

The trouble is (although Isreal didn't deal with it at all well) anything could've been smuggled in in terms of small arms, explosives etc on those boats, they were big enough to hide a fair bit of gear on if someone took the notion and they did set sail from Turkey, a Muslim (albeit quite liberal) state.

Isreal have badly shot themselves in the foot over this, they could've played it quite differently.

Thumbs Up

I get the impression that they did it in the full knowledge that Israel would act, which would in turn draw the media's attention to their cause. I doubt that any of them were expecting a reaction on this scale though.

Israel offered them an option to take aid through the legal means.

they refused and wanted to do it illegally to make a scene, they knew it was going to happen.

I think aim was to break the strangle hold Isreal have on the supply of aid (and everything else going into Gaza.) Aid agencies are adamant that not nearly enough actually gets in, if they had been successful in forging a sea route in, it would have set an important precedent.

As I understand it, Isreal strcitly limit and control what goes in to stop Hamas 'terrorists' being able to fire things back out.

If it was anywhere else, the UN would've sent in peacekeepers.

Thumbs Up

Yes, they do.

For very good reason. I have been in a streetfight with palenstinian boys in a street in Israel, they were shouting at us (myself and the israeli guys i was with) that if they had a bomb they would kill us all, including themselves, there and then.

The idea of humanitariasm in this case is distorted, given the fact the people who need it have no problem with killing themselves just to bring others down with them.

Yes i am jewish, and yes i support israel - it does not mean i will follow them blindly but by allowing so called 'peace aid' ships through (on which the passengers attack the IDF first), this would spur on further ships on 'gun running' paths. if the aid given was all legal and kosher then they would have agreed to the legal route.

and anyway - some of the world cant seem to see that Israel took down hamas leaders (HELLO!?!?! A SELF PROCLAIMED TERRORIST ORGANISATION) for them.
