Realistically how far can you ride them without getting piles from the vibrations, or them blowing up?

Enduro Land's 50 miles from me, and there are a few green lanes localish to me as well.

19621 miles on my XT600E.

However my wrists are both shot and very cracky, my thumb hurts when I grip things tightly and both my knees hurt all the time.

What type of tyres, and I was thinking more KTM 250EXC/EXCF levels of tune.

Lots of miles on my KTM690enduro, but even though it's got the full word 'enduro' in it as opposed to just an 'e' doesn't make it an enduro bike bizarly.
The 690 has a very nice smooth engine for a big single and is about the biggest bike I'd take around an enduro track (I have done a Hare and Hounds on it), but I wouldn't really choose one purely for it, given the choice.
A bike that you're maybe splitting between green lanes and enduros

Remember enduroland moves around too. 50 miles should be do-able, even on a competition bike.
Consider a sheep skin pad and be more concerned about how you’re treating the bike – they often don’t like to be sat flat out on A roads etc.

Note; I should be taking a few bikes along to four marks this Saturday if you want to have a go on a couple of different styles – thread in SE forum.

Fair, I suspected as much......

And thanks for the offer G, but it's a bit of a journey for me, if it were nearer then yes.

Rear TK644 Trellebourg army specials, they are indestructable lasted to Irkutsk before tony relieved me of my used one.

Front TKC80, died in Azerbaijan, replaced by a Metzlier Karoo in volograd, was torn apart outside Volograd, and replaced with my bald TKC80 which lasted several thousand miles until Novosirbisk where I hit the mud hell and the Metz looked kind of worn.

Replaced by an unknown tyre in Mongolia, replaced with the Metz again.

KTM250EX? Maciek Swinarski's team used the x4 400CC version to go to Siberia last year, he went through the mud hell of Merenga and was ok on the partial sealed road to Magadan.

The 400EXC is basically a detuned 450EXC, designed for easier trail riding and the like.
The 250EXC-f is a bike designed to win competitions, so makes a lot of power for it's limited capacity/engine design.

As far as I know, people will often use the bigger competition bikes for trail riding with larger oil tanks/radiatiors, which should hopefully mean less need for silly service intervals.

This is exactly what they did, plumbing in things here and there, they also had inflatable pontoons for extreme river crossings, but consideriing to travel Meregna 100km from Magadan took them 2 weeks it was still incredibly tough going.

But how many enduros have you done on it? Seen people on such bikes do them, but it certainly makes it a bit harder.

Something like a CRM250 makes a lot more sense - but if it's primarily for stuff like enduroland, I'd probably go for a proper competition bike if poassible.

Incidentally - do you have an access to cars? Lots of people do ok with towball carrier things.

I do yes, the RX8, however the vertical load is apparently only 75kg, which isn't enough.

Seen plenty of people taking bikes on cars listed as that and lower – however it might be a bit more obviously ‘wrong’ on the RX8 as it’s probably not as front heavy as a diesel mondeo or something.

Visions of turning up with the front in the air.

I suspect if you did, you'd find it rather lacking Smile. I've done reasonably paced off-roading on my CRM125, but it was a hell of a lot more work than a decent competition bike. The CRM is a lot better on the road than my much more powerful/lighter 200EXC, but a hell of a lot more work in the dirt.
