not exactly the same, but i've got an ICE tag on my bike key's with emergency contact details on.. Cost about £4 from amazon including engraving and delivery. Not sure what good it would actually do if i binned the bike but for £4 it wont do any harm!

Had one in an outside pocket on my wallet in full view when I had my head on car crash and they didn't even look at it.

Mate had his blood group on a tattoo and they still checked before giving him blood as it "could" be wrong.

Trouble with that is it might encourage noobs to take peoples helmets off to see if there's a sticker there.

Stinkwheel started a similar ish thread not long ago.

I'd suspect that with the way medical histories are held as the sort of be all and end all documents in these situations that for someone of importance to take note (and more importantly be sure that they wouldn't get sued if they acted upon information on the card) then it would have to be some form of legal document - ie standardised with all important questions (not just what the rider thinks may be relevant) answered and also be signed by the rider (with possibly even photograph there too to be sure they are who they report to be - as you can hardly ask if they are unconscious).

Basically it ain't worth shit, and will count for F.A. in court if a paramedic acted on it's info (and someone came a cropper) unless it's a legal document.

My OH has one of those tags with the usb connection, but someone said in an earlier topic that they are not allowed to be used in NHS computers. He doesn't bother carrying it with him now Rolling Eyes

There is an electronic dog tag that can be programmed with ICE details and connects via USB.

However...The A&E unit at Staffs CANNOT read them as I was told by one of their nursing staff that their policy (which could be standard NHS policy) dictates that no removeable device can be connected to their PC's.

I'm just emailing UTAG them to see if it's standard NHS policy. I'll post the reply if I get one. I've also linked this thread and Stinkwheels thread. Smile

Email from Utag said.

Quote:
I personally used to work in the NHS, my partner currently does, standard policy does state that staff members can not use usb sticks without permission from the Information Governance Manager, this is of course to prevent viruses, etc... As the UTAG is a read only device this would not effect the NHS computers.

I visited a hospital in Bury St Edmunds Suffolk and had a meeting with the Information Governance Manager there, he was happy and took the UTAG to the board who also agreed that the Utag could be used.

I am sure that all Hospitals in the UK will allow the UTAG once they are aware of it.

But, the general concensus is that when a biker goes down, never touch the lid.

Why have a card stored in the lid when you cant get to it?

I don't think paramedics/doctors would really change the way they treat you because of information you are carrying. So from a medical/safety point of view I think they are a waste of time.

I wear dog tags with emergency contact details for just in case I end up dead or in a serious condition. It gives piece of mind to my family in that they know they will be contacted if something goes wrong. I don't want to come home to a dad that has spent most of the day trying to find out if I was dead or alive again.

They were harping on about these at the Meltdown. I was chatting to the guy and he kinda admitted that it was more about opening people's minds, as in , 'oh this thing is in case I crash, maybe there is a chance I'll crash, I shouldn't ride like a dick'

They also had 2 dvds, a free high vis sticker set, and a crash kit (high vis vest and foil blanket) and were kind enough to let me sit on their weird front two wheeled trike thing which they had all marked up. I love free stuff. Even wore the high vis vest on the way home (thought it might help if we happened to get pulled over for silly antics)

There was also a Fire Brigade cbr thou, which we may have taken the piss out of loudly asking where the water was to be condescendingly told that we shouldn't expect a bike to turn up to a fire. Thumbs Down Fuck you Mr fireman who can't take a joke.
